    Shortest section of single track

If this is any help, I sign single, bi-di and reversible lines on the current network. Bi - di for me is a line that you can go in both directions but has an adjacent line, so for me Allerton-Garston is a single from the point where it is in its own and not with adjacent running lines...

    Shortest section of single track

I know of the old layout where it had the extra tracks to the south of the current layout, but didn’t work over it, no!

    Shortest section of single track

I can’t be doing with going into the finery of the points made on here. But for a very small section of single line that leads to various points at either end. I give you Speke Junction in South Liverpool. Up & Down Garston Goods. Signals at both ends. Was fringe AB/phone worked till 2003, now...

Trivia: Longest train that a single TOC could run by coupling together compatible multiple-units

It has only happened as a test. In practice it can’t happen either as they’re not allowed to electrically couple. longest train I’ve known about is an 18 car Merseyrail.

    WCML EPS speeds

It was a touch short sighted to remove the TASS from the XC voyagers primarily because of this route. When I was at Picc there was always a conflict with a late running XC over there at Stone, if it was late, you both ended up late as the signallers virtually never let you go in front, of it...

Ex LNER (and Grand Central) Mark 4 sets for TfW

Yes, they’ll need full training because you’ll need to know how to isolate brakes for example, knock a coach out if it has a serious fault maybe, and the DVT will have its differences. I remember mk2 and mk3 coaches having a very different technique when having to do anything on them, so a mk3...

A question about operating the Speed Set on the Class 390

Hehe, this is getting into a ‘my dads bigger than yours’ so I shall indulge, The tales I got told from the ‘good old days’ definitely mean that Polmadie drivers were not on their own for testing a train to its capabilities. I don’t know if they ever came across Liverpool drivers in the old days...

A question about operating the Speed Set on the Class 390

(Excuse our inter-depot digs for those of you not drivers on the West Coast Main Line!)

A question about operating the Speed Set on the Class 390

DRA should have been took off at this point. You can’t do the procedure on a red. After getting ready to start, Put it in Forward Move PBC from brake step 6 and go to appropriate power notch. There isn’t a right or wrong power to apply really. Though 1 I would only really use on the shed.

West Coast Partnership: Awarded to First Trenitalia

Holyhead already has a traincrew depot. It just doesn’t have drivers. There are no onboard staff based at Crewe. There are plenty who live in Crewe but no actual base there.

West Coast Partnership: Awarded to First Trenitalia

It would make no sense to open a Central Rivers depot as the work is fully covered by my colleagues from Wolves and the Voyagers are going anyway. Secondly, ALL the middle depots are at risk with this Crewe depot, not just Liverpool and Manchester.

Trivia: Large towns which deserve more trains per hour

I wish St Helens Central had a proper link to Manchester rather than a suburb of it. It’s pretty bad that even the village of Rainford at the top end of the borough has a link (admittedly not a very good one) but the main town doesn’t. I think it’s links to Liverpool are undoubtedly still the...

Trivia: Large towns which deserve more trains per hour

I can confirm that in BR days, the odd London service did stop there, local door job from all accounts of my colleagues at Manchester Picc (both Drivers and TM’s)

Couldn’t agree more on the condition Andy. But even you’d probably still go an HST over a burger van surely!!!

    Financial Difficulty at Northern?

You got a copy of the driver links have you? You obviously know exactly how many vacancies there are in those links.
