    Edinburgh to Bristol

A very good point - especially with really long journeys like this. That's very useful - thanks!

    Edinburgh to Bristol

Well, it's possible to do it for £60 return with slightly different dates (6th - 9th), but once you add transfers in/decide 5am is too early it gets rather less convenient...

    Edinburgh to Bristol

Hi all, Quick split question: Return travel from Edinburgh to Bristol Temple Meads Out: 7th or 8th June Return: 9th or 10th June (2-3 nights) Railcard: 16-25 Looking for any cheap combination/route...

Freedom of Severn & Solent - valid on LM + SN?

Then one could argue that the ticket is valid across the network. There has to be some reasonable boundary drawn.

Freedom of Severn & Solent - valid on LM + SN?

Pretty much covers it. It's advertised as being on all services on the mapped area - therefore it is. Whether other TOCs have agreed or get a share of the revenue is irrelevant - both SN and LM are part of the RSP.

"This is due to waiting on a train member"?

But emergency services are run with some contingency. If a member of staff is unavailable, things might run a little slower, but they still happen. If there were more spare crew & drivers on the network to help fill in the gaps, the public would probably be far happier.

Paying for a Journey AFTER Travelling

It's not really an odd conversation, "single from X to here, journey just made" doesn't bat an eyelid. If there are facilities, even if you've made the journey, not bothering to pay is clearly an offence - and an RPI, if they saw you leaving, could issue you a UPF notice (or take evidence). You...

    Excess the return part

Indeed it is. A zero-fare should apply on that over-distance excess (and should be done prior to travel). (Note: The route restriction will also change from "Not London" to "Banbury".)

    Spilts: Salisbury to Cambridge

A quick request for possible splits: Salisbury to Cambridge, leaving on a Friday afternoon, returning Sunday. Avoiding advance tickets, with a 16-25 Railcard, prioritising cost over time. Cheers!

    Deceptive advertising by CrossCountry

It's quite a bait and switch really. If you go to the CrossCountry site, and see advertised journeys which would normally be completed on a CrossCountry train, you expect the "from" price to apply to that. In the case of Leeds to York, the advertised price is "from £10.60". Yet, when you...

Excessing a return portion of ticket

Can't spot one in the current routeing guide easements section. Edit: Brucey is right though. Doubling back that distance wouldn't be an issue.

Excessing a return portion of ticket

Just to confirm, you purchased an Anytime Return from Cardiff Central to Oldfield Park, and have the return portion unused? I believe that an over-distance excess on the return portion can be issued (despite used outward portion being used), and the excess should be: £0.

    Is this excess possible?

I agree - I misinterpreted the requirements for changing a ticket under these circumstances, making (B) the correct answer.

    Is this excess possible?

What matters is not the actual operator, but if the ticket says "Chiltern only". If no such operator restriction is listed, it's valid on any operator who operates on a permitted route.

    Is this excess possible?

Ah, you are right! Thanks :)

    Determining permitted routes

In short, if the Routeing Guide permits it as a route, it's fine.

    Confusing oyster refund

I left a refund on an Oyster (in failed status) when I was in the States. Requesting it be retried the day before I next visited worked fine for me (ca. 4 months).
