Integrated rail and bus ticketing and timetabling is crucial for making public transport an attractive alternative to the car. Many public transport journeys can often only be made or may only provide a reasonable journey time by using more than one mode. Yet there is very limited effective...
This conference on Thursday 5th was organised by the Green Party in the EU, seems to have attracted interesting speakers and is worth watching:

Speakers:

As far as I can see there seems to be two different prices offered for the same Super Off-Peak Day Singles/Returns between Cambridge and Waterbeach or Ely. For example, full price Super Off-Peak Day Returns between Cambridge and Waterbeach / Ely (in either direction) are available for £1.60 /...
The German national news website, www.tagesschau.de, has recently published an article about ticketless travel in Romania.
Here is an excerpt of it.
Romania clamps down on ticketless travel
Corrupt guard has some explaining to do
Train travel is not just expensive in Germany. In Romania...
It appears that Fyra may start running to Brussels from December.
Eurostar has stopped selling Any Dutch Station tickets for travel on or after 9th December.
www.treinreiziger.nl (an independent website) has an article saying that the V250 trains are now allowed to run into Belgium and...
I would be interested in finding out when Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs) repress specific fares and what the differences between TVMs with regards to this are. I am unable to see a pattern in which fares are and are not repressed.
For example, at a Shere Fast Ticket machine this afternoon I...
What do you think of the "Search for Split Fares" and "Cheapest Route Finder" on trainscanbecheaper.info?
I for one am very impressed. The "Search for Split Fares" tool covers returns as as well as singles (unlike MSE's app) and I haven't seen anything like the "Cheapest Route Finder"...
I would like to buy some friends a Chester Zoo add-on from Bache in the next few weeks but the staff at my local station do not seem to know how to sell it (fair enough, it's not exactly common). I could get the Chester - Chester Zoo add-on which they can definitely sell but it is more...
I have phoned Eurostar domestic sales five times in the last few days to try to purchase a London Estar CIV - York ticket for July. Each time I have just got several beeps and no-one at the other end of the phone. Eurostar Customer Care says they are just busy and there's nothing Customer Care...
There is an interesting article on ORCATS in "Rail" magazine this month. Of a £40.30 Sutton Coldfield - Burscough Bridge Off-Peak Return (SVR), Northern apparently gets 0.84% of the fare even though if following the Sutton Coldfield - Birmingham New Street - Wigan - Burscough Bridge route just...
Could an excess from a York - Scarborough Off-Peak Day Return (CDR) to a York - Bridlington CDR be bought even though York - Bridlington fares are only valid via Scarborough for interchange purposes because of an easement?
I would recommend that anyone who has not already done so takes part in the DfT's fares consultation: https://consultation.dft.gov.uk/dft/2012-09/consult_view
When doing the fares check to determine Routeing Points, what happens if a fare on one route from or to a routeing point passes the fares check on one route but not another? Presumably the route is just considered valid via any route unless the ticket being used says otherwise.
How can passengers find out which trains are designated Penalty Fare trains and where compulsory ticket areas are?
The Penalty Fares rules say:
Penalty Fares publications can be extremely misleading. FGW's publications for example refer to Penalty Fares stations but these cannot be...
The Advance Fares FAQs posted by Hairy Handed Fool suggest that when buying domestic Eurostar connections CIV is not actually necessary to ensure that passengers are put on the next trains if delayed. So does it actually matter in any way any more whether or not you buy a CIV ticket? Do staff at...
I hold a First Class ticket for TGV 9242 Milano Porta Garibaldi 10.12 - Paris Gare de Lyon 17.19 on Saturday 25th August. Has anyone travelled First Class on Paris - Italy TGV trains and can tell me what it's like? I presume that there is no free catering as all publicity only says that meals...
Is there any way that ATOC might be able to ensure that Anytime Returns are cancelled for the sections which have been used. As mentioned previously, these tickets give a huge amount of flexibility and when used are often simply marked with pen or (regularly in Northern England) not even marked...
I have long got used to the idea that Northern sell all tickets on board (whereas First TransPennine Express only sell full price Anytime Singles and Returns unless the ticket office is closed). However, Northern's timetable leaflets dated 22 May 2011 and 11 December 2011 state:
I cannot see...
I have just noticed "Hamburg", "Koln" (sic) , "P Rabbit Pass", "Rail Europe Inc" and "Echelon UK Ltd" on my Avantix (National Fares Manual 11). Unsurpringly no fares are shown for these stations. Further investigation shows that there are many similar listings of companies or German stations...
