Probably the most visible example would be the standardisation of electrification on the Southern, including the wholesale removal of the LSBCR's ohl equipment and replacement with LSWR-style 3rd rail
In the defence of the VoR, they currently have a project (not yet started on the ground) to build a narrow gauge railway museum. They received a lot of parts from the former LBSCR London Bridge terminus to construct a train shed.
I think the reason for the VoR being rather different to other...
One of the most bizarre examples would have to be the decision to terminate Seaford trains at Horsted Keynes and electrify the Ardingly branch to this purpose!
There's the once a day Pwllheli - Aberystwyth via Machynlleth. Granted it's advertised as 2 separate trains but to all intents and purposes it's a through train with a long reversal between Dyfi Junction and Machynlleth and back to Dyfi Junction before continuing to Aberystwyth .
Dwyfor Meirionydd constituency may be the winner as regards parliamentary constituencies - appears to have 26 national rail stations (and many narrow gauge too!)

Being on the autistic spectrum (though undiagnosed at the time), I was the "plaything" on the school bus at the start of secondary school. One of the older boys' favourite games was to swing me into the upstairs back window in an attempt to throw the window and me onto the road behind...
If Llanrwst Town Council had been successful in their bid to join the United Nations (and thus gained nation state status), Llanrwst and North Llanrwst would have been possible
The best way to get to the Brecon Mountain Railway would be via the T4 (TrawsCymru Newtown - Cardiff bus that goes via Builth and Merthyr) and then the connecting bus at Merthyr. Less than 2 hours in total and a good frequency.
I think I've had speed records set before the firefly. Usually something like 12mph lol.
Electrification can be a dilemna: it costs a lot to electrify all existing track but if there's a crash then replacing the crashed train with a steam loco when the 2D2 is cheaper up front, faster and more...
