Trivia: Artists only known for one song

There were lots of novelty records that could be on the list. 2 I had were:- Napoleon XIV - They're coming to take me away Mr Murray - Down came the rain. The B side of the Napoleon XIV record was the same as the A side but completely backwards. Even the label was backwards. Stan

    Examples of bad design

I bought a Tesco cook in the bag chicken at Christmas and the cooking instructions were printed on the bottom of the bag. No way back if you put it in the oven, forget the cooking time and want to have a quick glance at the instructions again. Stan

Taking bicycle on peak time Scotrail service

Thanks for the replies to my question. When trains are really busy at peak time you just have to take your chance whether it is for a seat or a bicycle. Stan

Taking bicycle on peak time Scotrail service

A work colleage was on a busy Scotrail service to Motherwell last week. There were no spare seats so he was sitting in the fold up ones reserved for bicycles along with another couple of people when someone came on the train and demanded they move so he could put his bike there. The cyclist was...

    Quality/Length of Sleep

I've recently taken to listening to podcasts before bed rather than watching tv or surfing the net. I find I get to sleep a lot quicker. Stan

Things the younger generation wouldn’t believe when you were a kid

TV with no remote control and if you rented it there was a coin box attached to the back to pay for the monthly rental. Wife/partner/family phoning round all the pubs to find out where you were. Stan

Comedic "things you would ban": minor things that irritate you

I'd ban people who can't eat in a restaurant without continually clattering their cutlery off the plate like someone sending a message in morse code. A woman eating next to me last week was really grating my rind by doing this so loud that the whole damn place could hear. Stan

Comedic "things you would ban": minor things that irritate you

The use of the word axe instead of ask. Mostly in American programs but creeping in over here now. Really gets on my nerves. Stan

Covid restrictions abroad: updates & observations

I was in NY in April/May, travelling with BA. As with nedchester, there was no mask required until we got to JFK and we found the same on the subway with not everyone complying. No masks required on the train from NY to Washington DC either. We returned through NY Newark on 9th May and the only...

Four trains in one platform at the same time

I have seen the sleeper at platform 11 in the morning when it can't get into it's usual stance at platform 1. It's quite a lengthy platform and if you look on google earth you can see it extends over the river Clyde. Stan

Things you don’t see outside any more

The last one of those I remember seeing many yeas ago was on Argyle Street, Glasgow near where Piccolo Mondo restaurant is. Other restaurants are available. Stan

Being asked for money in the street

I was stopped in Paisley once on my way to the supermarket by a very well dressed tearful female asking me for bus fare so she could get to Glasgow because she fell out with her boyfriend. I saw there was a bus approaching so offered to stop the bus and pay her ticket once she got on. That...

A scam phone calls and emails discussion.

I have a Samsung mobile and it seems to be recognising and tagging potential spam calls now. It still rings but I get a warning next to the number showing. Pretty handy though. Stan

A scam phone calls and emails discussion.

Maybe they are trying to catch people off guard by calling at that time. I've never had calls so late before so it's beyond annoying. I don't turn my mobile off at night as I have elderly relatives who are ill so I need to be available at quick notice. Stan

A scam phone calls and emails discussion.

I received 4 calls in quick succession last night after 11pm, all of them showing similar phone numbers to my own. I ignored them but they were all a couple of minutes apart and the number changed each time so obviously spam calls. It's annoying that they were so late at night when I was in bed...

Ever had an accident on a bus?

In 1992 I was returning from the Monsters Of Rock festival at Castle Donington with friends on a bus we had rented. While we were out cold after the excesses of the day the driver fell asleep (confirmed by a friend who saw him nodding off). The bus swerved from the left lane across to the...

A scam phone calls and emails discussion.

I got an email today stating my google account was being moved from the UK to Russia and if I wanted to change this I had to click here. The only thing is that the email came in to an old Yahoo email address I rarely use and anything relating to google would be on my Gmail address...
