I thought this quote in the Modern Railways article was quite an explicit nod to that:
Obviously we don't know who their 'insider' is but I wouldn't be surprised if XC are deliberately slipping out this message.
I haven't done the maths but XC seem to think so, per the article:
They've said recently that they're now turning a profit in summer but not in winter. They say they're approaching a break-even point (suggesting that the former is currently not outweighing the latter) but their feeling is that, as @Jealgu says, really the route to profit is running multiple...
In today's email:
I wouldn't mind betting this is Hamburg, as previously suspected for the Paris-Berlin route.

As suspected, Hamburg is added as a stop from 13 July. Timings below.
Among other things a potential gamechanger for UK-Scandinavia travel, eliminating the need to stop...
I arrived at the first class lounge for the 1740 LDS-KGX earlier and was told to get straight on the 1640 - with the storm coming their priority has been to get everyone moving ASAP. Luckily I not only found myself a spare solo seat in First, but a Signature menu on it, rather than the Dine I...
Confirmed in an email this morning as part of a timeline of planned developments this year. Simply says "New dining on board concept introduced - Starts in March 2026" with the below image.
The PDF menus, linked at the top of each page, appear correct - I'd rely on them.
Full LNER is on the Signature menu, along with the pie and the treacle sponge pudding for lunch/dinner. Dine has both chicken tagine and croque monsieur for hot meals.
It is excessive. That said, we've often done a drink and a dessert in the bar area while waiting for a train and it has been 100% worth it. It's not cheap but the quality of the pastry warrants it many times over and it's a perfect place to pass an hour or two.
The thing that is new seems to be that they've just secured capital for this from a private investor.

I suspect it will not always be the most practical or cheapest - depending on your requirements - but taking the new European Sleeper from Brussels to Bern (then a 1-hour reservation-free onward train to Zurich) will be a fun new option!
Though as it happens, the French sleepers have since switched to guards performing catering duties from their staff compartment (or not at all on some routes).
And many of these are areas that European Sleeper think they can do better on, hence they think they can make it work without subsidies. Indeed they've said that one of the reasons for choosing to go north out of Paris is the significantly reduced trackworks in that direction and the better...
Interesting. The timetable posted above was shared by an European Sleeper employee and is in the official French documentation with a start date of 26.3.26.
This is the new timetable for everyone's reference:
So they're starting off with a much much more conservative timetable - I can only...
And well timed with the improvements in the Hamburg-Copenhagen offering we're expecting to see this year. An opportunity for ES to reach into the Scandinavian market here, among others.
Some very pertinent questions here. But as Jon Worth analysis goes, they've come off relatively unscathed...

This has appeared in the Dutch press this evening but doesn't appear to be reported anywhere else yet.

Absolutely. I've never had the slightest problem with acceptance (with responses ranging from indifference to positive enthusiasm) and have always received excellent service, which is better than can be said even for other "interrail-friendly" countries.
And as an addendum: the Man in Seat 61...
Another tick in the box for the UK being - against all the odds - really quite good at Interrail. If I use the Avanti lounges before and after my journey down to London, and get a full meal on the train in between, I feel like I've almost got my money's worth before I've even left the country!
Like much of the CrossCountry experience, they deal in extremes. I did Penzance-Birmingham a few months back and the poor train manager was alternating between heating and cooling every few stops to try and maintain some control over the temperature.
