Minor things on trains which irritate you

Also, stupid signs that are not formal and are cringeworthy, like Virgin Trains and SWT use to have in their toilets."Please don't flush dreams, hopes, etc... ". The last place I want to be inspired or have an uplifting quote is sat on a blocked train bog that resembles a metal vase full of...

Minor things on trains which irritate you

Ridiculous 1st Class arrangements, such as those found on 465/9s and 700s... Looks like an ironing board with one of my nans dish cloths placed on it...

    Translator Vehicle History/Previous Life

Thank you for another interesting reply GC! Also very informative :) Out of curiosity, do you know the history of the Mk1 translators NSE had? Were they ex loco hauled stock for example and when were they withdrawn and converted. Would also be interested to see if they still exist.

    Translator Vehicle History/Previous Life

Quite an odd subject but none the less interesting... So recently I saw 2 translator vehicles on a Facebook group I'm on that had been recently overhauled and refurbished. The ones I saw looked like they were originally Mk1 type coaches. This triggered a question... How many translator...

Class 442s - Now at the end of the road and to be withdrawn permanently

Subjective, as they were the last proper Southern Region EMUs to be built and as far as I'm aware they were at one point the fastest third rail EMU in the world being capable of 109 mph. Nothing by today's standards self admitted. They were the last EMUs to follow Southern tradition by reusing...

Class 7xx - seemingly random numbering?

I stand to be corrected, but I'm sure in BR days the TOPs number rules were: 1xx - DMUs 2xx - DEMUs 3xx - AC/Dual Voltage EMUs 4xx - Southern Region EMUs 5xx & 7xx - Non Southern Region EMUs. Probably not relevant in today's railway scene mind.

    London Buses Destination Blind Colours

Hello there, I'm rather new to the bus scene and quite an amateur so please forgive my lack of knowledge Here's my anorak question of the month: I'm aware that a few years back that TfL changed the destination blind fonts and colours from a foloresent yellow on black, to a white font on a...

How long did the BR Blue & Grey livery last for?

Longtime no hear me old 'mucker! :) Hope all is well. Must of been about 9 years since I was properly active. Hope all is well! And yes, some EPBs were Blue & Grey up until withdrawal in '95, with only a NSE logo stuck on them! Kind Regards

How long did the BR Blue & Grey livery last for?

Aye dude feel free, I'd be interested to see! :) Prior to the 504, I had seen a 4VEP in BR Blue & Grey dated 1995 on a Facebook group. At the moment it does look like the 504s win having the livery as late as 1996 :)

How long did the BR Blue & Grey livery last for?

Thank you for your replies :) I should of been more specificic and have put: Blue & Grey livery of orginal BR application opposed to retro liveries applied after acquiring stock. Not seen the 508 yet, will have to look around! Kind Regards.

How long did the BR Blue & Grey livery last for?

Hello there, A rather odd topic, but none the less intriguing for myself... I've been watching a few 'anorak' type videos on YouTube recently, and to my surprise I came across EMUs in BR Blue & Grey livery as late as 1996, freshly into the privatisation era. The units were Class 304s on the...

What are the differences between Class 303s & Class 311s?

My first post on here in a very long while, so please forgive me! :) I have recently purchased the latest issue of Locomotives Illustrated (Scottish & Tyneside EMUs) which is very thorough and is a bible for information and technicalities. But on reading about the chapter on the Class 303s...
