So, do we know yet what was done and where?

Question regarding Class 68 loco noise level

One Saturday last year I caught the early Chiltern service from Stourbridge Junc to London for an EU demo. I was there early and saw the set leave the sidings to head off to Kidderminster. You could hear the 68 for ages after it had left. There was plenty of warning of its return, too. No need...

    TFW Class 175

Travelled from Ludlow to Holyhead and on to Dublin on Thursday. Overall, a very pleasant journey. The 175 to Shrewsbury was comfortable, airy and you get good views across the train out of other windows than just your own; well, if the train's not crowded, which it wasn't. The ride was decent as...

Craven Arms to Dublin port: not so easy as it should be! Help!

Thanks for the replies. I'd not seen the BRTimes site before: useful. Thank you. Using it, I can see that I can catch the 13.27 from Hhd and change onto an ex-Manchester train at Shrewsbury, leaving Shrewsbury at 16.51, arriving Craven Arms at 17.13. Maybe that's why the ticket man in...

Craven Arms to Dublin port: not so easy as it should be! Help!

I went to Leominster station today to book two return tickets to Dublin from Craven Arms. National Rail enquiries had given me: Thursday 9th January 2020, 09.46 out, changing in Shrewsbury, ferry at 14.00, arrive Dublin 17.15. Fine. No problem. Can be booked. However, the return, Tuesday 14th...

    TFW Class 175

I caught a TfW liveried one from Hereford to Leominster a couple of weeks or so ago. It had been newly fitted out inside, too, and was a welcome relief from the 80x I'd just been on from Oxford to Hereford. Much more pleasant inside, more comfortable and it rode well.

    WCML New Rolling Stock Discussion

I should imagine that for the ordinary passenger, the most important thing (apart from the train turning up!) is first to get a seat, and then for that to be reasonably comfortable in a "cosy" environment. Apart from the first (plenty of seats), my journey from Hereford to Oxford and back on a...

Flooding: 26th October - Stafford - Stoke and the North West of England

TfW seems to be running services as far south as Hereford on the Marches line. Presumably some stock was stranded on the wrong side of the washout at Pontrilas. Does anyone know how much work had to be done to get trains into appropriate places, if any, and how it was done?

passenger confusion over trains going to similar sounding destinations

Many years ago, my aged aunt, travelling from Leeds to Leominster (Hfds) was put on a train at Manchester Picadilly to ... Leicester. She hadn't a clue she was on the wrong train and anyway, she had no phone. As train after train arrived in Leominster without my aunt, we were beginning to panic...

Really bizarre routing suggested by the National Rail Enquiries app.

I used it last week to plan a journey to London via Evesham, i.e. the direct train from Hereford rather than going via Newport, so that might explain it, however, my laptop browser is set to clear all cookies when it closes. I don't know how the Android app works. The website is working normally...

Really bizarre routing suggested by the National Rail Enquiries app.

I think National Rail may have been having some problems, because afterwards I couldn't get a return journey to Cardiff Central on the computer site, either. It was behaving most peculiarly.

Really bizarre routing suggested by the National Rail Enquiries app.

I asked it for trains from Leominster to Grangetown, Cardiff. Easy. Get a train from Leominster to Central and change. Except the app doesn't shew that at all. First suggestion: 10h16 Leominster to Hereford. Change. 10h39 Hereford to Worcester Foregate St.. Change. 12h00 Worcester Foregate to...

    Favourite train class

Deltics on Mark IId stock from Leeds to Kings X Class 47s; 40s; 45s; 37s; 31s; 25s in that order. Honourable mention for the 33s when they were on the Marches Line. I used to watch them go by from my classroom window in Ludlow. (I was the bored teacher!) Current: 175s when you can get a seat.

    GWR Class 800

Had my first journey on a class 800 today: 10h46 (ex Bristol) from Reading to Paddington, formed of two five car sets, running on diesel. The interior was pleasant enough, although I ended up with a seat that didn't align with a the window, so had a very limited view. The diesel engine sounded...
