    Stations near Motorway Services

Thank you for all the suggestions. I think the clear winner here is Exeter. Near to a station, and a station that has a decent service too. And a hotel on site. Plus its easy to get to from where I live

    Stations near Motorway Services

looks like one hell of a walk from Long Buckby though. As the crow flies, doesnt look so bad. But the only walking route looks to be many miles!

Discontiuous electrification: is it really the best way forward?

many people thought that the cancellation, or more accurately, the truncation of electrification would lead to a disaster. In fact, it may turn out to be the best thing ever, since it has forced train manufacturers to invest in and develop bi-modes, tri-modes and hybrids This will lead to...

    Stations near Motorway Services

Maybe this should be in Infrastructure and Stations, but its part of a trip I am planning. Are there any railway stations that are near to motorway service stations (say half an hours walk)? Ideally a motorway service station that also has a hotel. An odd thing I would like to tick off my...

What should passengers rights be during a forecast storm?

not sure what people expect rail companies to do. Yesterday many rail services were shut down. In those areas, buses, and in many cases, taxis were not running wither, since there was a "do no travel" recommendation in force. Plus of course, even if transport could operate, many drivers and...

Hitachi Factory - First Group order 14 new trains with options for 13 more

I think on these applications they often look for a potentially friendly MP, and add their town to the list. Always helps if you have a campaigning MP on your side!

New Blyth and Tyne route. What services are possible?

Initially they will want to keep them separate. I cant see there being any new longer distance services, but I wouldnt be surprised if they combine some existing services later, so Ashington to Carlisle is a real possibility, maybe they might also combine with Whitby or Nunthorpe services

Should fares on XC rise to suppress demand

It is actually one of the great contradictions of our time "nobody wants to use the railways, because theyre so overcrowded!" :D :D

Trivia: What are the quirkiest railway stations in Britain?

and dont forget the extra quirk of the worlds longest bench!

Should fares on XC rise to suppress demand

Lets face it. XC are not getting any extra carriages or services any time soon. Fare rises would be unacceptable. The issue is mainly people using XC as a local service. So, the only way to stop overcrowding is to either ban short hop passengers, or simply cut out all intermediate stops...

Trivia: What are the quirkiest railway stations in Britain?

I find Birmingham New Street quite quirky. The fact that being underground, you cant work out which way you are facing. And with so many services reversing there, the display boards showing "First Class at the Front" are pretty useless....

    Cricket

Crawley will bounce back. I assume theyll go with the same XI in the next test. Some would have suggested Robinson be given the gloves for the 2nd test, but since Pope di pretty well, its unlikely theyll change a winning team, unless they decide to rotate the seamers. Possibly Potts in for Atkinson

Transport secretary (now resigned) convicted of fraud in 2013 after being reported to police by her employer.

The latest allegation from Sky News is that the police became suspicious when they asked her by email if she had a picture of the stolen phone. She replied, attaching a photo of the phone that metadata suggested she had literally just taken....:D:D:D:D

GWR Sunday Cancellations - crew availability - why?

Basically GWR are just being honest for once. GWR has been a shambles every Sunday for years. They never have enough crew, and there are always multiple cancellations, but usually they are literally announced at the last minute. It may be because they have to make an announcement about...
