I presume that the black-on-yellow hazard stripes on the part of the crane lifting and dragging the damaged end of the carriage might show the parts which are wider and higher than the usual loading gauge, and hence would have had to be pre-checked for special clearance along the route that they...
Kinks in both tracks in a similar place rather than in just 1 track might suggest the ground beneath the tracks moving, rather than the rail buckling due to heat?
Hopefully greater computing power/AI, whether with the analysis done directly on the train, or with the video live-streamed to a server, will one day get to a point where video like this can be analysed very quickly before the next scheduled train passes such a point, so that the next train due...
Given that Class 350/2s are an imperfect solution to replacing the Class 323s, not being able to keep to timetable, with the decision forced to replace the Class 323s sooner than originally anticipated by necessity, what will the Class 350/2s be replaced by in turn? Will Northern’s new fleet...
What is the long-term plan for the services that the Class 175s are meant to be covering? As I seem to remember, they were meant to be an interim solution to replace the Castle HSTs, enabling IETs to go back to Inter-City services? So does Project Churchward include ordering enough units to...
Will they add another unit onto the order to allow for a Class 377 to reverse cascade back to Southern to replace 387 304, which derailed at Lewes, since presumably it’s not possible to make another Class 387 to replace the derailed one any more?
I suppose one could say that a moment isn’t the same as the instant that something begins. Moments, such as the moment while something is happening, can last for a little while.
Both the Class 165s and the 1992 Stock were made by BREL in the U.K. - the 1992 Stock were made slightly later than the Class 165s. The S Stock were made in the same factory as the 1992 Stock, by Bombardier, the Canadian company which bought what BREL was bought by/became - ABB, then ADtranz...
Isn’t it more difficult to modify things later than to make them right from scratch? I suppose the modifications will be newer than the rest of the train, but the whole train could be newer if it were made later, after the modified design were agreed. Will the build quality of something that’s...
I don’t understand why they are churning out more units of 2024 Stock if not everyone is happy with the design yet? Surely that just means more expense in modifying the number of units already built? Are SIEMENS purposely creating more work for themselves for later, so that they can get more...
They’re not that bad - I find their seats more comfortable than those on newer rolling stock. Their moquette I think has been replaced once since they were new, just not that recently - I seem to remember that it was originally green, but was replaced by one that’s kind of slightly...
They had to re-paint them all, because they had to do mid-life corrosion repairs to the bodywork of them all anyway. That’s all that the contract included - there hasn’t been any work done to the interiors at all, not even deep cleaning, so you’ll find sagging moquette and seat cushions, and...
I’ve always wanted to see photos of them side-by-side, so thank you for that. It’d be good to compare the side profiles of them, too. I’ve just noticed that the 1973 Stock has a windscreen wiper for the cab end door, whereas the 2024 Tube Stock doesn’t, so presumably it was deemed no longer...
Looking at these photos of what an un-damaged Class 720 cab-side door looks like, it looks to curve outwards a bit from the roof-line, and be flush against the side of the train, and the cab door window is slightly recessed, so perhaps there is some sort of fascia/valance around it:
The door on...
Thank you for your replies.
Looking at this attached side-on photograph of the de-railed carriage from The Guardian, which they credit to Lucy North/PA, it seems to show some damage and broken-off remnants to an area above the cab door, and also some kind of erosion from scraping of the cab...
