Lots of marching in places where they're not wanted, noising up the neighbours and singing about 325 year-old wars like they happened yesterday...?

Au contraire. "The matter of D-train exclusion" is not cast in stone for two reasons; i) the Northern Rail documents form an invitation to tender, not a legally-binding contract, for one TOC only - others of course being available, and ii) the small matter of the outcome of the forthcoming...
You know as well as I do that the opening comment is shorthand. If the blog author was to explain the convolutions of thought of, inter alia, the erstwhile MP for Devizes and the Northern Rail ITT then the blogpost would have run to several pages.
To your reply, which is a classic case of...
Because it demonstrates clearly the point that, bogies and bodyshell apart, the D-train will be a completely new animal rather than a "cast-off" or even "a bit nicer inside than normal refurb jobs".
While a different issue, its viability in service, as you rightly point out, remains to be...
I particularly like this piece. A real poke in the eye for those bleating about "London's cast offs" - and from someone who should know what they're talking about.

Why not? There are four door apertures per side on 'D' stock as currently configured, so any specification within this could be catered for. Whether of course such an arrangement would be practical in service, in terms of station dwell time etc., is another question.

To finish the off-topic diversion, the story of Marylebone's brush with closure, with contributions from several of the people involved at the time, is told in minute detail here. It is well worth spending a rainy afternoon reading the whole thing.
And to go back...

Not quite. A value engineering exercise in mid-2011 removed plans for stabling sidings at Watford Junction and replaced them with stabling at a retained Watford Met station site. The best and final bid to DfT in late 2011 - with the £118m envelope - contained this variant. The...
When the TWAO was approved in July 2013 the project cost was widely cited as £118m, based on the best and final bid submitted by HCC to DfT in late 2011. While your point about labour costs is beside the point (as well as being inaccurate on timescale - we are, after all, talking less than four...
You have now twice claimed that this project is a bargain (unless of course you are being ironic). Given that the project originally approved by the DfT was set to cost £118m, perhaps you could enlighten us as to what new features the extra £166.4m will buy. And I write this as a long-time...
The renamings took place to commemorate fifty years since the proclamation of the Republic in 1916. Nothing bizarre about it. Apart from Connolly, Heuston and Pearse in Dublin, and possibly Kent in Cork, the other renamings have largely fallen out of common usage.

I'm glad to see this thread settling down again to discuss the units themselves. A few additional observations at this point:
a) If Vivarail do not tie down any longer-term leases for the D-trains, the spot-hire market is a useful niche to fill as they will have the flexibility to supply...
With you on this. There's an awful lot of bluster about what remains nothing more than a cost-effective and innovative proposal to re-use trains with plenty of life still in them. People threatening, inter alia, to take a cutting torch to them if introduced in service where they live? Really...
There's a lot of gun-jumping going on, both here and in the ES. What the Budget report (p38) actually says is:
1.144 The government will work with the Mayor of London and the Greater London Authority (GLA) to develop proposals for extending the Gospel Oak to Barking Line to Barking...
First ever post here despite being a long, long, long time lurker. :-)
I'm a Celtic fan. I wonder who the OP supports now that his club (or is that "company"?) is in liquidation. ;-)
