    Manchester - Scotland EMU stock

As long as it has an adapter coupler on board, yes. There is a large degree of uncertainly regarding whether, in practice a Voith Scharfenberg coupler, as fitted to, for example a Pendolino can couple (even mechanically) to a Dellner 12 coupler, as fitted to, for example a Class 350 Desiro...

    Regional Variances in Ticket Prices

I was unaware of that, thanks. So, how are the numbers for the discounted fares arrived at? They vary widely between areas, presumably based on local conditions (congestion risk, rail capacity etc) and the PTEs must have some input to this as they are the ones close to the issues and able to...

    Regional Variances in Ticket Prices

Are you sure? I'd feel quite aggrieved if I had to pay more for a shorter journey that took longer. In general, I should think that journey time is a better comparator than distance, particularly for relatively short trips. If the journey time is too long, people will simply use the car.

Fair point about 379s rather than 375s. Not sure more Meridians would ever see Litchurch Lane. Weren't they built in Bruges the first time around?

    Regional Variances in Ticket Prices

All good points. On the Leeds - Whitby, I thought I'd check my comparator of an open single and OUCH! - £32.00! That said, it is a three hour, ten minute journey, so in terms of time spent enjoying the inside of a TPE then a Northern DMU, it's actually great value! I should imagine the...

    Regional Variances in Ticket Prices

I take your point about fares outside the PTE areas, which is why I was using examples of fares within the PTE areas. The problem is there is no balance, nor any fleet replacement either!

    Manchester - Scotland EMU stock

Aw shucks, was it so obvious??? Seriously though, the Chinese are not ready for either an IEP or a Thameslink tender when to date they haven't introduced anything and the Manchester - Scotland order is so small it would be an inconvenience on its own. I've already said what I think...

    Regional Variances in Ticket Prices

I'm starting this thread under NR General, but site admin may decide to move it to rolling stock, or even wrap it in with the existing "Where will the next DMU order be?" thread. Last night, I decided to venture out from Liverpool and head east into my old home patch of the Peak District...

    Famous people on trains

I'm sitting on a Pendo (no it isn't 054) heading for Euston ex. Liverpool Lime Sreet right now, with actor George Layton. :D In the 1980s, I once shared a bottle of red wine with Alex Higgins on an old LHCS Mk III set heading out of Euston to Manchester. That lasted as far as Watford Junction...

    Class 379 Miscellanea

I wasn't on 054, that is unless Alstom decided to give the new trains that "shabby chic" look, to fit in with the existing fleet.

    Manchester - Scotland EMU stock

In which case, it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to procure 350s to operate these services, burdening West Coast with a third fleet. These trains should either be short-formed Pendolinos or electrified Voyagers. In either case, they could fit in 125 mph paths and in either case, they would...

    Class 379 Miscellanea

Thanks. At the risk of becoming "cross-Threaded", the cider in the Pendo First Class (see the thread on "Best Food on Trains" in the General NR section) is just wonderful.... cold.... sweet.... like nectar. Anybody who's reading this in Coach C of this Pendo, where the SC has said the air con...

    Class 379 Miscellanea

LOL, if only drivers were that cold, delays on the railway would be reduced but carriage washes would need to have stronger detergents! Made my Pendo to Liverpool thanks.

    Class 379 Miscellanea

Thanks. Now crawling between Broxbourne and Cheshunt and will definitely miss my connection from Euston. Probably need to open a new thread, entitled "How do I stand when I miss one pre-booked train, because another TOC has let me down, when the two services were purchased...

    Class 379 Miscellanea

Currently at a stand just south of Broxbourne, due to an "incident" further down the Lea Valley. Anybody know what's going on? En route to Liverpool and likely to miss connection if NXEA doesn't pull it's finger out!

Gaining access to train door control panels

Two issues here as far as I'm concerned, both of which bring BTP's role into question. 1. Was an offence actually committed - i.e. did the boys break the law and if so, which one? 2. (and this is a general question) Is Youtube video evidence admissible in a court of law? Presumably the...

Gaining access to train door control panels

The lock pattern for each point of access is usually specified by the TOC, not decided by the manufacturer.

What should be the next DMU order?

If an order were placed, the vehicles would be delivered between eighteen and twenty four months afterwards and the final assembly facilities would be made ready to coincide with this programme. CSRE has made several approaches to Bombardier regarding cooperation and these approaches have been...
