    Cricket

He bats at 4 for us usually, im not saying he should go to NZ and I don’t think he will but England will need to pick someone to bat at 3 soon and stick with them. People have suggested Malan but then you are taking him out of his comfort zone too as he has done well at 5.

    Cricket

It’s hard to judge in a pummelling that England received but I thought he did well. He tired a lot towards the end but he had bowled over 40 overs in very hot heat and Mooen wasn’t too much better. I think he needs to be playing though rather than carrying drinks so if he’s not Going to play in...

    Northern Rail - Details Taken

I would avoid ringing them. You’ll never know what you’ll say on the phone and you might say something you don’t mean and it gets taken the wrong way and might prejudice your case. Sit tight and wait for the letter, unless you have lots of previous you’ll probably get a chance to respond. When...

TOPS Requests (including headcodes, allocations, traction, etc) [Instructions in Post 2]

Can anyone please id the unit that worked the rear portion of today (05/01) 1C28 1506 from London Victoria to Portsmouth Hbr/Bognor. 377160 was on the Portsmouth unit but I couldn’t get the Bognor half. Tia

Southern Victoria to Portsmouth and Southampton chronic bad performance

I was referring to this http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/G70944/2018/01/05/advanced and it’s subsequent return http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/G71053/2018/01/05/advanced The stations I discussed where you would miss it even arriving in good time were Portsmouth and Southsea and harbour

Southern Victoria to Portsmouth and Southampton chronic bad performance

Which is what happened today. In fact as the Fast Waterloo was pulling into Fratton the Southern moved off simulataneously. Problems at warblington LC today apparently. Not sure if it’s bad luck or things need looking at.

Southern Victoria to Portsmouth and Southampton chronic bad performance

1C08 due at the harbour at 1204 and subsequent 1C49 1212 to Victoria starting at Fratton it seems. Trouble with the Victoria departure is you could turn up 15 minutes before, presuming 2-3 minutes to get your ticket and get to the right platform and then have no chance of getting it at Fratton...

    Cabin Crew Discussion

It wouldn’t surprise me that there is a culture amongst a minority of wealthy frequent flyer types who seem to get away with much more because of the business they bring. Any such behaviour on the railways I would hope be immediately dealt with,no matter how much business you brought to a TOC.

Shildon to Bethnal Green journey (with 2 Together Railcard)

Grand central go from Sunderland direct to KGX and are relatively cheap with advances. Depends on timings etc. And they’re pretty comfortable and friendly. Other people might be able to advise splits or travel cards that might be cheaper/better value.

    Guards duties when departing stations

I have seen guards leave the window as soon as the service departs but only on services late at night at rural stations where I presume the guard has seen that no one is around.

    Cabin Crew Discussion

It’s more likely that as camp air stewards is such a cliche that even those who are not camp in their private lives camp it up on board. Serving people and and having to moving in a considered way might look camp to some, perpetuating the stereotype. Camp certainly shouldn’t equate necessary...

Fantasy: Given no limits, how would you modernise your line?

If money was really no issue then a direct bridge or tunnel at Woolston into Southampton to save the slow journey round St Denys. Or more realistically resignalling of Netley Line to improve headway along there.

    First Group: General Discussion

That only works if there is a flat fare. Considering a single currently ranges from 1.10 to 5.90 where I am depending where you go and add in the fact that contactless is easier to pay for day tickets or week tickets I think there will always be an element of driver manual operating in many areas
