Ticket machines are restrictive beyond belief!
However, programming is EASY IF the data they get is providied. Without trains being able to pass on the info, how can they be?
What if a peak train is so late - it becomes off peak? I know this may seem ludicrous, but programming it is a...
Well I need to catch the 3:48pm from Cardiff to Swansea on a Friday to get the 5pm connection bus from the Kingsway to Gorslas.
If over 5mins late, I can kiss goodbye to that. 50% of the time it is late and sometimes VERY late.
What gets me is the boards saying on time when it is late (except...
I know what you mean but there are mitigating factors. I have no trouble getting off at Llanelli and walking to Parc Y Scarlets - I have done it a few times - mobility and weather depends on this of course :)
As for the Ospreys, there has been proposals for a Morriston Parkway station. If...
Yes but you were not specific enough and over generalised.
Stores below a certain size can open 365 days a year. Llanelli - Station road on Christmas Day - they are open a usual long day.
I think it is mad but there you go.
In this mad world now, I welcome Christmas to be honest...
there is no LAW that states you cannot have a sale before Boxing Day! tescos start christmas sales before christmas nowadays!
I work for Buyology; our shops close Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Years Day and Easter Sunday.
I get calls from the shops every weekend and bank holiday...
I have been on pacers from Filton Abbey Wood to Bridgwater.
I have had pacers a LOT of last week from Merthyr Tydfil to Cadoxton and back.
I HATE these trains - they make 150s look like the worlds greatest trains!
Why would you WANT to travel long distance on these?
They are...
when I am in Merthyr a brisk 10 or so minutes. Nearest other stations (apart from further down the line) are Aberdare, Rhymney etc.
However, as there are no longer any links they all lead to Cardiff anyway. the service is atrocious by the way!
When in West Wales, the nearest station is...
The 'Modernisation' plan earlier set the stall for it.
If they had realised that many branch lines could have run on a service with no manned stations etc they would have been able to run them for peanuts!
Administered badly, and sadly, a LOT of those lines lost would have been a godsend...
Delays are an unfortunate problem that can relate to MANY things.
The Valleys lines are continually subject to delays and a lot are due to unreasonable times at stops.
When I get the 6:38am from Merthyr, it gets to Radyr to leave at 7:23am. I can vouch for that in that it is almost ALWAYS...
The only problem with road transport as regards to the 'green' element is cost. Electric vehicles are VERY overpriced and very limited in that very few charging stations are about and time for charging is a joke!!!
Hydrogen fuel cells maybe a point but surely this can go into rail as well...
Regarding revenues, Merthyrs ticket office opens at 7:15am and two trains leave before that.
I wonder how much tickets are purchased on the 6:38am and 7:08am trains?
I mean a lot of weeklies will be renewed and regular tickets.
It must amount to £100k per annum plus. The calculations...
I have used it a few times, but for what I do it is no good and can ONLY be done in a ticket office!
I work in Barry, and on a Monday go to Llanelli to get to Bridgend (as I get a season ticket Bridgend - Merthyr).
Also it is cheaper to get a single to Gowerton, and then a single Gowerton...
It makes me sick to be honest.
Arriva run the rails badly.
They are late too often, too many cancellations etc.
The problem that gets to me is they will NOT spend any money on the franchise as they hide behind the WAG who control it!
I so hope Arriva fail to regain the franchise as...
I am not disputing it - it is indeed the luck of the draw!
Crossing the road is a very loose analogy though.
What about going to the toilet in Australia and you unluckily get bit by one of those spiders? It happens in all walks.
It is sad what has happened to your brother I agree. I am...
I work for buyology and get 15% off.
You work for the rail so what? A perk is a perk?
The Daily Telegraph should mind their own flaming business!!!
I have gripes against some railway workers, but the majority are absolutely brilliant!!!!
You deserve all you get in my eyes as it is a...
Maybe I am lucky - but I think there is a major movement that is getting so disaffected by such tar etc exposure.
http://www.the-tma.org.uk/tma-publications-research/facts-figures/tax-revenue-from-tobacco/
£11.1 billion in tax from tobacco sales in the uk alone.
I am no accounting genius but...
I have been exposed to passive smoking all my life, more so than most! How come I do not have any issues?
Sometimes TOO much is made of it! I am not saying I am right but there is a lot to be said about making too big of an issue for me!
Interesting quotes on smoking.
I have never smoked and never will.
However, my mother, father, brother, girlfriend and some friends smoke.
Passive smoking? I have taken loads of it in - I have for almost all my life and I am close to 41.
Chest problems? NONE at all.
Too many...
