A Sensible plan for rolling stock

That would be rather nice! But in the grand scheme of things, aren't there sections of track that would be more suitable for electrification than the Leeds-Harrogate-York like with its (if my memory serves me correctly) two trains per hour in each direction?

A Sensible plan for rolling stock

Surely a complete waste of time and money for what is little more than a handful of services a day?

    West Coast Mainline:Severe Problems

Surely both to seek and give guarantees about something like that is just utterly ridiculous. Nobody can guarantee anything like that at all.

    West Coast Mainline:Severe Problems

Today was unbelievably quiet in Euston. There were a number of delays coming in (mostly mid morning time) but things were running pretty smoothly by about 1130.

    West Coast Mainline:Severe Problems

If that ends up being true we know who is to blame! It seems like things are moving now, nominally at least. And no delays on the EC line from Leeds. I suspect the reported cancellation on that bit was because the train was in the wrong place and they couldn't get a replacement.

    West Coast Mainline:Severe Problems

He's glowing orange more than usual? Looks like there are problems on the ECML too, due to a fatality between Berwick and Newcastle. Though despite that there are still cancellations on departures from Leeds.

    West Coast Mainline:Severe Problems

**prays for predictions of perfect service and no annoyed passengers whatsoever. At least until 2pm** I very much suspect I'll be wrong :(

    Applying for Job with Northern

I remember that from my medical. What was the reason for that? As an check that you're not decanting from another container into your pot?

    West Coast Mainline:Severe Problems

I wasn't there yesterday, though I was there on Sunday night during the mess then, and all I can say is that staff are of limited use really. Up to a point we were sending people elsewhere, but as it got to 9pm there was pretty much nowhere they could go other than to MK on the buses that...

    West Coast Mainline:Severe Problems

Does the WCML franchise give Virgin priority over other services on the tracks then?

    West Coast Mainline:Severe Problems

Certainly on Sunday night at Euston it seemed like most people understood that it wasn't Virgin's fault. Obviously people were annoyed, but nobody really got angry with us doing customer service on the concourse. I think the Virgin PR department are glad that they didn't start the marketing...

    West Coast Mainline:Severe Problems

Today was an experience. Three weeks into the job and We're dealing with no trains at all! Midland did get a bus service to MK running, but no intermediate stops. Most people were being sent to Marylebone (if I have to say "Victoria line southbound to Oxford circus and Bakerloo northbound to...

    London Midland Cancellations

The Midland services out of Euston have been laughably (though probably not for passengers) bad. Every time I walk into the station I'm faced with pretty much every Virgin service on time but a sea of Midland delays and cancellations. This weekend, when they were running solely buses off...

Loco hauled Virgin trains relief services after new year?

If it's anything like the relief trains I've barriered then it'll be for standard class passengers without reservations wanting to get as far as Preston. I'm told lots of people get turned back from some of the evening Glasgow trains, particularly on Fridays so anything to cut down on the strain...

    Riot-inducing LM farcical fares

There are really stupid fares up in Yorkshire on the Northern route from Leeds to Selby. If I buy a ticket from Leeds (it may actually be from Harrogate via Leeds, but the point still stands) to Micklefield it costs me £5.20 and one to South Milford (the next station along) is £7.20. But a...

    The first S stock

It's a long way out to Amersham (even Uxbridge is quite a way), but people on the Central line seem to cope okay with the 1992 stock. Though I'm not quite sure how people can do it every day. I went all the way from Woodford to West Ruislip the other week and it wasn't pleasant!

    Ugly trains

In the GNER days I always preferred the look of the class 91s over the 43s, but in the grey and white colouring I have to say I've swapped round. And the NXEC painted trains show up the dirt loads.

Virgin VHF is go! (plus more)

    I can't say that I am really!

Virgin VHF is go! (plus more)

The mobile tickets are, for the moment at least, on a very limited trial which is unlikely to be extended very far. The very cheap tickets on that will probably be more in an attempt to test the system rather than to necessarily get huge numbers of more bums on seats. Certainly they exist in...
