Awful marketing taglines for public transport

Lincolnshire RoadCar bought a batch of 3 Volvo deckers for local services in Grimsby and branded them with the strap line ‘Local buses for local people’. Very League of Gentleman. They didn’t last long in Grimsby as the local people kept vandalising them. https://flic.kr/p/2qfzMMu

Haddenham & Thame Parkway also gained a second platform at a later date as the line through it was doubled.

    EMR Regional and Connect refurbishments

I didn’t realise 505 was back until I was asked to start it up the other day and found it looked a bit smarter  so I’m pleased to hear 506 is back as well!

Quirky or quaint practices on buses in the past

I’m only just down the road from Walcott and that is the outstation. The roller shutter door has only recently been fitted, prior to that it hadn’t been touched since it closed (IIRC 2002?). Afterwards I believe a bus was still out stationed at the Red Lion in Digby - though I might be...

Extension of lincolnshire wolds railway to louth progression

Pleased to hear that things are progressing for the LWR. It’s a lovely friendly little railway, but at present very short.

    Hastings Line 175th Anniversary

Are there any community rail groups that cover the line? They’re usually really good at commemorating the anniversaries!

Overspeeding at Cambridge Junction (Hitchin) -- 11/12/25

Thanks. I’m not familiar with the layout at Hitchin, as it’s well off my route card. I’m sure like Spital Junction and Grantham it will be more content for future safety discussions.

They will publish the safety digest once findings are complete.

RAIB mention the correct signalling sequence being shown on approach. Are flashing aspects used here?

Quirky or quaint practices on buses in the past

I’m pretty sure you’re correct that it was 10 for the price of 12. Stagecoach retained them for a time as the “Flexirider” - just issued on standard ticket roll, but a longer ticket for it to be punched. There were lots of those workings. A Grimsby bus would do some 15s after working in on the...

Quirky or quaint practices on buses in the past

If I remember correctly they were actually 12 journey tickets in the Lincoln area. The ticket card had green strips along the edges, with a white(ish) middle section. The idea was you popped them into the reader and it would print the date and time of the journey onto the ticket. When this...

Stations with "platforms" which could in principle be used but (almost) never are

Interesting, thanks for that. My most recent jaunts via the Up East have been into 1 which was novel!

Will Body Cams become something that nearly everyone wears ?.

I think there’s plenty out there already who do use their own cameras day in day out. I liked having a camera when I was customer facing on late shifts. It made me feel more secure especially with little back up. I do think that’s a sad reflection on society though!

Could someone explain why ASLEF want Sundays inside the working week?

I was recently told that the arrival of a dozen or so new drivers over the next year would finally end rest day working. Gave me a chuckle, as I got told the same when my cohort came through over the course of a year. We’re now similar to you, and I’m also working a rest day this week!

Stations with "platforms" which could in principle be used but (almost) never are

The main issue with P2 at Doncaster has been a prohibition on 170s using it. I believe this related to them fouling the platform if they had a deflated air bag. As of very recently this prohibition has been rescinded but I’m unsure if a 170 has run in via the Up East Slow and into P2 yet. I have...

    Class 170's at Barrow Hill

All regional crews are 170 trained, it would be impossible for anyone not to be now. I’m unsure why these are still at Barrow Hill I’m afraid!

    Seeing forum members unexpectedly

I very rarely post on here now, but sat next to @Xenophon PCDGS on a service between Manchester Piccadilly and Wigan North Western today. As we’d not met before introductions were not made until he was leaving the service.

    Trolleybuses

With London Transport it was a different test and was listed as “Trolley” on the licence. Assume it was the same elsewhere?
