    Class 458/5

Caught sight of both units between Wimbledon and Raynes Park this afternoon, on the up slow line and apparently moving at a normal speed. I think it's this one: http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/Q03733/2013/11/28/advanced So it would appear whatever communication problem they were having...

    Class 458/5

Rode the District Line to Wimbledon this afternoon and saw both units out in the yard, coupled together and creeping along. A number of engineers were walking alongside, paying close attention to the join between them. So maybe progress is being made? (Or maybe one unit was dragging the other!)

My idea for Double Decker stock

On a type of stock with two separate, continuous decks with internal stairs, yes someone could evade an RP officer by changing levels and doubling back. With an open gallery however, it would be obvious to the officer what they were doing no matter which level they're on. Can't remember the...

My idea for Double Decker stock

I see no reason why it couldn't be done. 3+2 on the main level and 2+1 on the upper would yield a very high density indeed. One of the main functions of the CalTrain stock was to carry bikes. Several carriages had large numbers of main deck seats removed in favour of bike racks. My...

My idea for Double Decker stock

CalTrain operates a fleet of what they call "gallery stock" on the commuter network in SanFrancisco, that I had a chance to travel on back around 2005 or 6. It's a concept that I've always thought had great potential here in the UK to solve our loading gauge issue. The lower level is...

    377s at Wimbledon?

Thanks for the information - do you happen to know which timetables are booked for them? Maybe I've just been looking at the wrong times but I swear I haven't seen one at Wimbledon since the spring...

    377s at Wimbledon?

Just noticed today what looked like a Sourhern six-car 377 formation operating the Wimbledon-London Bridge service - one heading for Sutton this morning, and one arriving from that direction this evening. I have never seen anything other than 455 and 456 combinations on this route. Does anyone...

    Class 458/5

First one is out running again this afternoon - just ran past my house! Doesn't look all that ugly to me, no worse than the rest of them, anyway.

    Questions about driving trains.

This is my first post on railforums so please be gentle :D What is the meaning of the signal that's an illuminated circle with a horizontal or diagonal dark bar, often seen part way along platforms (at least that's where I see them.) Thanks.
