There's a few things which might be an option:
- have the bike out of sight
- have the bike inside (which may be a folding bike)
- make the bike look like it's not a nice bike
- put several locks on the bike, as whilst one may only take 30 seconds, having 4 makes that 2 minutes and so makes...
Or in other words, it would likely be much cheaper and less disruptive to:
- fix St Pancras (maybe even a substantial rebuild)
- create a travelator route between Euston and St Pancras
Taking a longer view, it would probably be worth using the money to part fund Crossrail 2.
The problem with big numbers like 200,000 is that given that it's a subset of a much bigger number (62 million, that being the population of England and Wales).
To put that into a more easy to understand context.
For a small town with 10,000 people in it then in the last 10 years 33 people...
Typically, it's assumed that a connection on a half hourly service would average at 15 minutes.
That's because, the likelihood is that not all connections would take 30 minutes, in the same way it's unreasonable to assume they would all only take 2 minutes.
Anyway, unless a journey is short...
Although there's evidence that typically those who walk or cycle can be more economically helpful to a high street than those who drive.
Very few people understand the total cost that they pay for car ownership in a year with the average being around £3,600 a year.
Even at half that rate...
Indeed, although for my post it would have made it a longer and it's in an thresd where do nothing is assumed to have been rejected.
Although as an overview, the class 22x's would need replacing in about 7 years beyond the likely timeline, so do nothing may well be doing this just about 7...
I think if anyone within Reform did (not that I'm suggesting anything) then it's likely that Reform would lose a lot of support from the "I'm wanting life like it was in the 50's" or "family values" voting former Tories (anyone else remember his that worked out due the Tories?).
Although given...
Indeed, however, if SWR GBR aren't willing to run such services then there's a train why OAO exist and will continue to do so.
Especially, if there's the potential of usable paths into London.
Yes, sorry about that.
If anyone knows anyone high up at XC I'm happy for them to use it to present it to the DfT (although they may well want to change some of the numbers, like the growth targets).
The thing with a zonal charge (i.e. within built up areas) is that it does a few things:
- ANPR coverage is limited
- taking a back road would likely incur higher charges than a per mile trunk road
- rural areas would pay less
- those it's tracking cars (such could be driven by more tab one...
I did, as the sort of thing which would be entirely sensible (I.e. so it'll never happen).
I had a spare few hours travelling by train the other day, so thought I'd expand on my thoughts in a way which would be understood by the DfT and Treasury.
Indeed, I did suggest that it was most likely useful as a local run about.
Yes you wouldn't want to drive a long way, but 75 miles wound be good enough for a lot of driving.
The average driver only does around 8 trips of more than 50 miles in a year and only a couple of more than 100 miles...
I didn't say it was a big issue, likewise I did say that there's cases where they are part of bigger journeys.
The point I was making was that it does highlight that there's mindset amongst a significant number of people that they leave their home and get in their car.
As even 80% of journeys...
As othershave said far too easy to bypass.
I've already got an external plug socket on my drive.
If I wanted to (because of such a proposal) I could replace the internal switch with a WiFi controller with timer.
That would mean I could limit my charging to overnight or whenever a tariff was...
The thing is there around 1 in 12 trips made by car are under 800m.
Whist there'll be some of those which are needed (the trip is part of a longer journey, people unable to walk or cycle that far or buying a lot of shopping or similar) there'll also be a lot which are just because the person...
The thing is when one is don't a long trip only part of the milage is from an away from home charger.
For example, we want to do a 240 mile trip we can do 140 miles at 4p per KwH and 100 miles at 92p per KwH, the cost would be about £24, or about 10p a mile.
If the (away from home) charge is...
Indeed, however given that there's around 5,000 premature deaths linked to air quality per year (around 4 times higher than deaths caused by collisions), is it any wonder why there's such a tax in place.
Add to that the fact that 8% (or about 1 in 12) trips made by car in the UK are under 800m...
For all those scared of getting an EV, yes they're terrible, believe all the scares stories, don't ever buy one and keep spreading the scarey stories about how the batteries need changing every 3 years and they catch fire all the time and the like with everyone you know.
You don't need to read...
