It's also a tiny, tiny cost compared with the overall cost of running the railways.
People who have absolutely no idea of how much it costs to run buses have the same obsession with the cost of repainting buses.
Oops, I meant Class 745!
We know the Adessia will be low floor.
The Stadlers fit the definition of low floor because they allow level boarding. Just like low floor buses are those with step-free access even though there's usually a large step up towards the rear to accommodate the engine etc...
It's not as if we don't already have low floor trains though, eg, Classes 345, 777 and LU S Stock. Plus the Alstom Adessia (successor to Aventra) and the various Stadler designs are only offered in low floor format.
The sandwiches were always so hit and miss as not to be relied upon anyway. Hopwood clearly doesn't believe in catering on trains. His one visible contribution in his brief tenure at SWR was to abolish the last of the catering.
Just to add a bit of balance to things...
I use London's buses regularly. I'd say around 1 in 10 of my trips has a wheelchair on board. In the last 3-4 years I've only seen one wheelchair user unable to board - and that was because there was already a wheelchair on board.
What I have seen...
An email has been sent to stakeholders updating on the latest Class 175 position. There are timetable reductions from 7th September while the issues with the 175s are sorted out before they enter / re-enter service.
Email text below. I don't have a source link but on this occasion this has been...
Nothing on journey planners yet that I can see. Seems to be all the fashion for operators to tell us they're "temporarily removing services from the timetable" but not actually provide us with the most useful information, ie which services.
As GWR are temporarily reducing their Penzance - Plymouth/Exeter timetable from 7 September to account for the ongoing 175 issues that won't be needed.
We are aware of an issue with emails from the Forum to Microsoft-based email accounts (hotmail/outlook/live.com email addresses). This is being looked into currently, thanks for your patience meanwhile.
