Our new ticketing site is now live! Using either this or the original site (both powered by TrainSplit) helps support the running of the forum with every ticket purchase! Find out more and ask any questions/give us feedback in this thread!
The original rail alphabet was far more consistently applied than the new version.
Some of the implementation around Yorkshire is so haphazard it's embarrassing.
Im intrigued - are you saying that after the encounter with the revenue inspector, and having already purchased a ticket when the revenue inspector arrived, you have since then purchased yet another ticket?
What kind of ticket was the first ticket that you purchased? You stated that you had...
Just always offer them is my advice.
It's easy, if your proactive, to have a rough idea of where everyone is going on a little 2-car DMU. It's part of the duty of care to ensure passengers get to their destination - and to help avoid them missing their stop. Help us to help you, if you will.
Yeah that's valid. Show all 3 tickets on the first inspection however, please don't be one of these that waits to show the next ticket until you reach the split point. The number of times I've waited for someone to get off, based on their ticket, when they are actually traveling further, is...
Our equipment (Northern) doesn't currently have the capacity to scan railcards and return a result . There is a separate app which will do it - however there is no mandate to use it.
There are several other ways to check that a digital Railcard is in fact what it purports to be without...
The only time in the last 8 years that I've known ticket acceptance on local buses at Leeds was during strike action in Arriva days - ("Keep the Guard on the Train")- and that was only on Arriva buses so useless to many.
Happy to be corrected however.
I meant all vehicles for hire.
I know that theres a difference - but to ordinary people they are all just 'taxis' - whether they are a traditional black (or in the case of Leeds black and white) taxi - or an Uber, a Veezu, an Oakwood Rex, etc.
I should have been clearer.
According to taxi drivers I've spoken to over the years, several thousand taxis are registered at Leeds.
There are over 1500 taxis operating within the city on Friday and Saturday evenings.
Given as well that taxis can obtain their taxi plates at low cost in places like Rotherham and Bradford...
The biggest issue I saw yesterday was that once the 'Do not travel' was in place, passengers were told to make their own arrangements.
Now, that's all well and good for those who were not mid journey - however, it's inexcusable for those already in the middle of their travel.
I fully accept...
I would argue it's too low.
If the OP had told the inspector he had no ticket at all, he would have had a £100 penalty + ticket. (Reduced to £50 early payment).
Why should deliberately claiming a discount for a Railcard you don't own, and then lying to the inspector about the existence of...
I completely agree with this.
If it really is that much of an issue - and it really isn't - the LNER position should be that the guard conducts a full ticket check and makes a record of any Hull Trains Only open or Advance tickets and then passes it to their management to arrange matters at...
Clearly stated that it isn't allowed in my original post.
Also, as you know well, on my train, (as long as I meet the legal and contractual obligations to the passenger), I may exercise my discretion in the passengers favour in any way I choose.
The issue is that it should be allowed, just...
Agreed, especially as some of these 'Northern Only' fares are disingenuous at best.
Take a Leeds to Manchester standard day return. Used to be routed 'Via Hebden Bridge'. Thus, you could do a change of route excess if off route. And it made sense : slower route, cheaper ticket.
Now routed...
For the record - on the recent occasions when transpennine express have operated the Leeds to York main line stopping services instead of Northern, "Northern only" tickets have been valid on these services.
This was a published 'type of easement but not an easement in the sense you and I...
There is an alternative viewpoint to all of this however. My own personal thinking would be:
An interview is offered so you have opportunity to provide any explanations or mitigation, it’s a courtesy offered to you and doesn’t mean that they have no evidence.
They’ve already demonstrated that...
So you are claiming "delay repay" through the operators website - you are not claiming a 'refund'?
(Never claim a refund on tickets which have been used to travel - the correct delay repay process MUST be followed.)
Regarding your return journey, you claim for the train you originally intended...
