East Midlands Trains to close buffet cars

Just got home from a few days in Germany. Travelled from Munich to Frankfurt on an ICE train. Now the buffet car on that is what I call a buffet - and it made me realise just how much in the wrong direction rail travel is going in this country. Being able to sit at the bar area, watch the...

0733 Brighton to London Bridge service (Mon-Fri)

I have caught this train a few times recently from Cooksbridge to Gatwick Airport and have noticed it has been late on quite a few occasions though? I believe it was a windscreen wiper problem which caused a major delay a couple of weeks ago. I much prefer travelling on these units than a 377...

All line rover and FGW sleeper

Yeah, fair point. But I would be happy to just sit in the seated accommodation. When you booked it, did you have to show your ALR ticket and can you specify a single berth? Thanks

All line rover and FGW sleeper

Ok sounds good. Did you pre-book or just turn up on the evening?

All line rover and FGW sleeper

Sorry if this has been discussed before but was after some advice. I have an all line rover for this week and want to travel down to Penzance on Tuesday night. Can I use my ALR on the sleeper down to Penzance in the seated coach or do I have to pay a supplement? Also, how much extra would it...

    Odd workings you remember?

I remember in the late 80s or perhaps early 90s travelling from London Victoria all the way to Lewes on a Gatwick Express (Class 73 and full mk2 formation) on an evening peak train. I recall the train going to Eastbourne.

East Lancs Railway East Coast day

Excellent, these look like great spots. Not quite sure of the underpasses etc but I will have plenty of time to find them between trains! Thanks again!

East Lancs Railway East Coast day

Who is venturing to the ELR tomorrow then for the above event? Its my first time at the ELR, can anyone reccommend some good locations for filming and photography (dont have a lineside pass)? Can anybody advise of an alternative way to get there other than via Metrolink from Manchester -...

Mileage: Exeter St Davids to London Paddington

Hi, I am trying to work out some mileage and have come across a stumbling block. I recently travelled from Exeter St Davids to London Paddington but trains were being diverted via Wooton Basset Junction. Would anyone have any idea of the total mileage for this particular journey?

    Priv discounts on Rovers/Rangers

A couple of questions regarding the Cheshire Day Ranger 1. How much is this ticket? 2. Is there a map available of exactly where this ticket is valid?

    All Line Rovers

So do you get 75% off First Class too???? :D Thanks for the advice, I totally see the logic in your plan. Being based in the south east and being in and around London very regularly I am lucky enough to not have to worry about it. If doing a 7 day I was thinking of doing 2 days in and around...

    All Line Rovers

Its a shame there is no discount for 16-25 in First... any reason for this? I dont know where to start in terms of where to go. Obviously as well as high mileage I am looking at visiting places I have never been before, particularly in north scotland, Cornwall and Wales. Those of you with...

    All Line Rovers

Super! Thats a great help - so if I knew which day I wanted to travel say from Euston to Fort William I could ring them up, tell them I will have an ALR and I can simply pay the supplement?

    All Line Rovers

I bet you are looking forward to it! I am just after information regarding the cost of it and whether I can get a discount using my 16-25 railcard? In addition, I heard you have to pay a supplement for a berth on the Caledonian Sleeper? How much is the supplement?

    All Line Rovers

Can someone provide me with a link to a website with information regarding prices of the 7 and 14 day rovers? Also the applicable railcard discounts for these? I dont know if it is me being thick but I cannot seem to find the information on the Nat Rail Enquiries site?
