Just because they were assessed doesn't mean they will pass... further info today that external applicants will be required to fill any gaps... and they are looking to utilise those currently on hold first.
Also was told (but not by a training school source) that they believe TS only fund...
Spoke to a colleague today who was at the training school this week. There are driver assessments going on this week and over the coming week for internal applicants (thats why they were there...). Information is that there are approx 80 people to be assessed and there are rumoured to be 4...
Don't be too worried if they haven't got to you yet...:D
Just look at it this way - FSR have about 1000 drivers. Assuming a 30 year average career, that means due to normal retirement they need to train around 32/33 drivers per year just to stand still. With people who leave/take medical...
FSR Internal vacancies posted today for "Mainline Drivers" for Edinburgh, Bathgate, Shields, Corkerhill, Glasgow Central & Airdrie (maybe plus some others, but I can't remember at the moment...) - subject to assessment etc.
No more info yet...

Just a little something I'm interested in...
I've had a look around the forum and I've seen a lot of talk about the inefficiencies running Diesel trains under the wires, but not anything about how the costs of each actually compare (apologies if I've missed it!).
Given the requirement for...
Thanks to all who assisted me directly via messages, PMs', or otherwise (and unknowingly) when I read posts about other positions - with all information and advice from the forum.
It's been a long slog, but at least I got there in the end!
Good luck to all who are still waiting!!
Cheers

Got my letter for my second medical on 15th April, Medical on 30th April and had a call from HR last Wednesday (5th May) to confirm that the medical results were OK and give me a start date of 14th June for Bathgate (Originally applied for Glasgow, but it's the same distance in the other...
I know that a couple of courses for internal applicants and external qualified drivers started last week. There is a trainee course starting in May, then another confirmed for June. A further trainee course is currently planned for August at the moment, but is not yet confirmed.

Hmmmm - 8 pages of posts, in a number of which people open to discussion, but some are stating fairly blinkered points of view. To me, there seem to be a few fairly obvious facts to be stated here:
Fact 1 - trucks can go almost anywhere to deliver loads using existing roads
Fact 2 - trains...
Can't agree more with the above - I spent 10 years living with the Paisley - Greenock line at the bottom of my garden (8 trains/hour approx 05.30 - 01.00 plus odds & ends overnight) and didn't really notice it after the first 24 hours. Strangely enough the southbound sleeper from Fort William (2...

Update
In the latest issue of Rail Magazine, it states that FSR employ something over 970 drivers and train on average 76 new drivers per year...

I'm led to believe that there are enough people for "2 or 3" courses in this situation, between internal and external applicants... I've also been told that there are normally around 8 on a course, so you can have a guess from that. Not sure how many of these are on this board - that would be...
Can't help but be reminded of the time I worked as an LGV driver working on Petrol tankers for a number of major oil companies...
At the time, I worked 12 hour shifts - any 5 or 6 days from 7. I initially lived 4 miles/10 mins from the depot. Closure of my depot was then announced and I was...
Hi all - I'm in exactly the same position as OldAgeFanClub (plus many others) - I've passed everything with FSR up to and including medical & disclosure certificate & now I'm just anxiously waiting on a start date. My tests also started in mid December last year... was due for an April start...
