TPE Nova 1 Class 802/2 Progress

I'd have thought that the significantly superior performance on electric would be very useful accelerating out of York toward Leeds (and Morpeth to Edinburgh), given the fragility of TPE services.

TPE Nova 1 Class 802/2 Progress

It was a requirement of the design of these trains that could safely change power source on the move. Seems pretty scandalous that the industry continues to unnecessarily burn diesel when the wires are available and can support the service (also scandalous that power upgrades haven’t been...

    Great Western Electrification Progress

Well this is wildly off topic, so I’ll answer your question then take it no further. Disinfectants like chlorine are highly reactive and basically obliterate the microbial cells reacting with all the cellular apparatus: Denaturing proteins, the cell wall, even the DNA. A good analogy would be...

    Great Western Electrification Progress

Chlorohexidine is a disinfectant, not an antibiotic, so resistance wouldn't be a problem. But it is corrosive, would need reapplying very regularly and would not be kind to the wider environment (indeed, any associated release of chlorine gas would be toxic). Phil. (Microbiologist)

    TPE 'Abysmal' Performance

Wow. What had the poor passenger in the suit done to deserve that? Was it just that you/they didn't like the look of him?

Northern - is the bad PR unfair?

Over here in Beverley we’ve gone from 1 Scarborough service every 90 minutes to 1 every hour. The hourly Bridlington to Sheffield service is now operated by 3 car 170s instead of 2 car 158s - a definite improvement in quality and capacity. The 155s are unfortunately a downgrade on the 158s, but...

    Northern 170s - Harrogate branch

The Bridlington - Hull - Doncaster - Sheffield service is a long distance semi-fast service.

    Priority Seats and their use

I’d second that. If you’re tall enough not to be able to sit in a normal seat then taking a seat that you are able to sit in, and is not obviously needed by someone with a greater need, is not selfish or idiotic. Quite frankly it seems pretty selfish to seek to deny a person the opportunity to...

    Northern: The Great Unit Cascade

From December, the Hull - Sheffield stopper is shortened to become a Hull - Doncaster stopper again. There's a new Doncaster - Sheffield stopper in its place.

After 397s are introduced, will there be sufficient capacity on northern WCML services?

There will also be 802s direct from Manchester to Edinburgh via the ECML/Newcastle to take some of the demand

Is there anywhere that a 10 car 458 hasn't yet been?

Haven’t seen any in Mallaig yet.

Pacer Trains: Politicians call for passenger compensation

The fares on Pacer affected routes are cut by a modest amount for as long as pacers remain on them. That's all that's required. The railway changes fares by varying amounts every year, and in many cases more frequently than that. And it may well be expensive. That's the whole point. Promises...

Pacer Trains: Politicians call for passenger compensation

Absolutely. It’s a pacer route. Not by default, but maybe you could apply for compensation in this case. Why? What’s difficult about this? It’s very simple. Phil.

Pacer Trains: Politicians call for passenger compensation

    Any route operated by pacers.

Pacer Trains: Politicians call for passenger compensation

No. I was on one from Doncaster to Hull on Saturday. They’re crap. They’re not an acceptable travelling environment in this day and age and they haven’t been for a good couple of decades. I don’t expect that once they’re all gone everything will be wonderful. I know damned well that it won’t...

Pacer Trains: Politicians call for passenger compensation

And no ones suggesting giving people a whole month’s free travel. Just cheaper fares on Pacer routes.

Pacer Trains: Politicians call for passenger compensation

“Can’t be done” according to the forum consensus then. But Bombardier compensated GOB passengers. I know, I know... That’s London so those people actually matter.
