Although it's a little for GA now, one of the solutions for the FLIRT's dwell time issue is changing around the door config on any new units. Perhaps something like 2 doors every other car while the others remain with the single door config.
I'm not sure whether this has been taken advantage of in timetabling yet or not, but the 222s naturally have a massive performance advantage over the HSTs too.
Still, 140mph is hardly ground breaking in terms of high speed trains. I'm sure many would agree that it has to be able to do at least 143mph or 155mph to qualify. This still means a fair few trains would qualify on record attempts but I don't think it's fair to base a fleet in general on one...
This may have already been covered =up thread but I'd request that everything on that list bar the 373 and 374 be disqualified for not actually being a High Speed Train
Whoops, just realised that it was a different service that served Pilning! the previous timetable had the 15:00 not stopping at Pilning but the new change means that it now does. I seem to remember the train was even earlier in the first few timetables after the footbridge closure.
I've noticed that over the past few weeks, the 1500 Cardiff to Taunton has been skipping Pilning although I thought it was one of the two Saturday services scheduled to stop. The latest GWR timetable says it still stops at the station at 15:32. Has this stop only just been reintroduced in the...
378s can and pretty much always do on any WLL services to/from Clapham Junction. Interestingly, the Class 377s on the WLL stop and sit for a minute near North Pole to complete the change which makes me wonder if it's limited by stock too. At any other locations though there is a platform where...
Apologies for not keeping up with but what's the current TLDR sit-rep? I few days ago it was 70 trains back in service soon, then I heard that 20 were going back but now it seems that long term alternatives are still being considered? I understand that nobody really knows but what's the current...
I'm more referring to the use of them on a "premium service". I always viewed HEX as a premium service that provided both speed and comfort as part of their hefty fee. Now with the 387s it seems like you're only paying for speed, perhaps that was just my idea rather than what HEX are offering...
Really? They're better than GatEx's but they're still in embarrassment compared to the 332s. The best place for the 387s are well away from any sort of "premium" airport service
Surprised by both facts really! 465 could very much be train dependent then. As for 2009 stock, I think they do 1.1ms^2 in regular service meaning that 96TS must be close to the 755/3s on full?
The 465s certainly do take off well for their age, but I doubt they'd worry any more modern EMU. My money's on the 707s who frequently find themselves spending a bit more time at stops running to older timetables. I'm not sure how quick the 1996s are but including tube stock then I think the...
I haven't yet been on any of the upcycled stock but from what I hear they're not exactly all the rage. I'm generally a fan of the D-Train design but using something like a 319 (something which I've never been a fan, of... ever) as a replacement is just a retrograde. I dread to think that GWR may...
