    New National Rail website

Most public-sector (GOV.UK) sites launch as 'beta' - it's fairly common as they're releasing to the public but still doing user research & discovery. https://www.gov.uk/service-manual/agile-delivery/how-the-beta-phase-works 1685292672 Seeing lots of complaints about the new site here but it's a...

Ayr Station Hotel Fire 28/05/2023 and now on fire again 25/09/2023

A shame. The station already looks like a construction site, now it'll look even worse. https://twitter.com/NetworkRailSCOT/status/1662851642599809025 https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/ayrshire/station-hotel-ayr-fire-appliances-30098041

Why is Wi-Fi limited and so poor?

Must be an Avanti thing. Usually the URL is .omboard.info or .on.icomera.com

Why is Wi-Fi limited and so poor?

You could've fooled me! Amount of times I've had fine data access via Vodafone but tried the train Wi-Fi and it won't load anything at all.

Why is Wi-Fi limited and so poor?

Onboard train wi-fi has always been pitiful in the UK. Always seems to be ran by Icomera who seem like they couldn't organise a merry event in a brewery. The amount of times I've tried to connect to an on-board hotspot only to find out the SSL certificate for the captive portal has expired...

    LNER guard asking for ID?

Definitely wouldn’t be that as they look definitely adult!

    LNER guard asking for ID?

Just sitting on an Azuma right now. Train guard has just been through and been checking tickets. He got to an Asian couple and when checking their tickets asked to see some identification like a passport/driving licence. Now I’m used to being asked for a Railcard but never seen that before...

Worst located and served taxi ranks at stations that have them?

Lincoln - never seems to have any taxis outside the station although is a rank. Although there's barely any taxis through the normal apps at the best of times.

    Transpennine woes and a moan...

I forgot to mention, my Nana visited me up here the weekend before and she suffered about 3 cancellations in a row with delayed trains when she got to Doncaster going back to Grimsby with TPE. I know British trains get a bit of a name for being unreliable but it's totally taking the rich tea...

    Transpennine woes and a moan...

TPE are a total lottery at the minute. Went to Manchester with my family last weekend. I live in Scotland (Glasgow Central my main national station) and my parents live in Grimsby. Both me and my parents suffered cancellations - them on the way there (service cancelled at Sheffield) and myself...

TRIVIA: Examples of three or more stations in a row that are less than a mile apart

Ayrshire line: Hillington West -> Hillington East -> Cardonald - has various services that stop at all 3 too in both directions. Paisley Canal line: Crookston -> Mosspark -> Corkerhill - all services stop at all 3 in both directions

TVM pre paid ticket card checking

Strange with the first one you quoted which was ScotRail, never had any trouble booking tickets with them myself (although the cashback tracking is quite unreliable, only worked once and that was for a season ticket). Sounds like Watershed was correct saying "Sometimes it varies depending on...

TVM pre paid ticket card checking

Bit of a thing that caught me out the other day. Usually I buy my tickets from Hawkhead (Paisley Canal line) to Glasgow Central via either the ScotRail app (m-tickets), or via the ScotRail Website/Trainpal where I collect a paper ticket using a collection reference. I usually pay online using...

    What is your favourite train?

TPE 185 units at the moment https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_185 Comfortable padded seats, nice design inside/outside, smooth ride, good speed, not overly noisy, plug sockets & Wi-Fi, onboard information screens. A solid 'modern' train.

Trivia - Furthest you've seen someone carried beyond their intended stop

Looking at the trainline the trains that go mostly direct to Dunlop stop at Barrhead. Worst case I'd end up getting the train back again

Trivia - Furthest you've seen someone carried beyond their intended stop

Once got on a train going to work in Hairmyres (stop before East Kilbride), sat down and was starring at my phone in a morning daze. Went past Crossmyloof, awesome, on my way. Then Pollokshaws West. And then... Barrhead. Oops! Thankfully was easy enough to get the next train sitting at the...

Abellio Scotrail Franchise to end early in March 2022

I quite like the 170's. They're nippy and very comfortable.

What activity is there on the railway on Christmas Day?

Interesting that you can get to Carlisle from Hillington/Paisley.
