These are emergency E-Ink Information Displays. If the signs are faulty, they can put this on platform. Low energy and wireless, the cable behind is for theft protection. Not sure why it's out when the sign is working, possibly waiting for it to be taken back somewhere else.
One thing that annoys me is we'll get General Broadcast about underground lines being down on approach to interchanges to LUL, but they'll never do one when there's disruption on our line. Instead we are sat waiting not having any clue what's going on. Just a simple "Faulty train at xxx...
I've just had a look at some recent route learning video (couple of years old though and only have the Southbound version). It seems only place you'll find them at stations is Forest Hill on northbound platform, Penge West and Anerley. There are plenty of others though between stations...
That photo is taken at Honor Oak Park on the Up Sussex Slow (Northbound). However, it was taken before the platform was lengthened and replaced. There are numerous other places they can still be seen. Brockley/Forest Hill/Anerly/Penge West etc.
I walk through my depot where the AWR is less than a foot from a live conductor rail. I respect it, but at no times have I ever feared it to the point I'm questioning my employment.
Probably the same on 377s, but on the 378s if the hustle alarm starts after the timer has finished and is about to automatically close the doors, breaking the beam will stop the hustle alarm and reset. As you said though, once the driver has pressed the close door button, the passenger open door...
I was driving in a tunnel that opens up directly in to a platform on a curve. As I was approaching I could just see the platform wall lit up flashing red. Freaked me out as first thing you think is there's a train ahead with flashing tail lamp, then second guessing myself as I was 99% sure I...
It's SDO sign, that's how many doors will be released on that platform.
Canada Water - 9 Up & Down
Rotherhithe - 8 Up & Down
Wapping - 9 Up / 8 Down
It's completely automatic with no input from the driver. The train reads a tag in the track (long thin yellow bar), which tells the train which...
On my units when at a stand, I can select any internal CCTV camera to look at. Quite easy to get to. I'll often bring it up if I have a longer dwell time, and mostly I'll have it on closest to door that passengers are most likely to board on. Some platforms I'll pop on the rear facing CCTV so I...
Something I've always wondered whilst driving over it on a near daily basis, is where does the Ludgate Line get its name when it's clearly no where near Ludgate? Looking at old maps I've been able to see that Longhedge Junction gets its name from Longhedge House which was nearby, but...
For my TOC, a lot of the fault finding etc has been done away with, as the TOC has a maintenance contract with the manufacturer. If something goes wrong and we can't isolate something to get it out of the way quickly, we'll be on the phone to control and engineers to talk us through what to do...
I've seen a fair few people come in with the mindset "I've got the job, hard bit's done", and they're the ones who struggle the most. You need to put in the hard work now through training and concentrate on that in order to have a successful career. It's not something you can just say I'll wing...
I currently use Oasys two-week disposable contact lenses. You can wear them and sleep with them up to 7 days/6 nights. You can also keep them up to two weeks if you remove them nightly. They're very breathable and hardly notice when I wake up that they're still in. Never had an issue using them...
New Cross Gate is the main maintenance facility for the entire 378 fleet, so there will always be a number of dual voltage units on ELL routes. As others have said, the 378/1 DC only units ONLY stay on ELL routes.
On the 378s we have dark mode. When selected, after the train goes above 4mph the TCMS screen turns off and dark. Is that what you mean, or have a dark mode that switches to black background and white text so you can still see the screen?
In regards to the PBC position, the newer Aventra units...
No, the 378s don't have the external option. Platform staff walk through and give all clear to the driver, then the driver closes the doors from the cab.
When you're driving DOO with in-cab monitors like I do, after a while you get used to particular behaviours of passengers on the platform. You can tell who's waiting to board, who's milling around for the next train etc. However, some passenger's behaviours go against the norm, and that's when...
As a NXG driver, yes, it's used at all ARL managed stations between New Cross Gate and Crystal Palace/West Croydon. Hear it many times a day when I have windows open or changing ends.
