The 18:07 Newark North Gate to Grimsby Town on Saturdays is now a dry train (at least between Lincoln Central & Grimsby Town), so this one has certainly had issues in the past. Last through train to Grimsby from Newark & Lincoln, so you usually get the drunks heading home.
Indeed, and it'd be pointless doing so, as it follows the 07:26 Cleethorpes to Manchester Airport TPE service!

Monday to Friday it is. On Saturdays, a fresh unit off Doncaster is brought in (in the same path as the 05:29 Doncaster - Cleethorpes &...
At the time of Hatfield, the Brigg line boxes were open from 06:00 Monday to 22:00 Saturday. The only extra shifts needing to be covered were Saturday nights and Sunday day & night, which were worked on with an amended roster for the resident signallers. It's since Hatfield was reopened that the...
No it wasn't. The Market Rasen line was opened (one of the three boxes was open for a possession, anyway), but in the end, nothing was diverted, with Single Line Working being put in place between Wrawby Junction & Scunthorpe (Foreign Ore Branch Junction) to get a handful of freight through...
It's not a rumour, it's a fact. Class 185's do not fall into the Sprinter category for differential speed limits due to their weight, so therefore have to run at the lower speed limit if there is a higher limit for Sprinters. The same applies on the Hope Valley route, but the difference there is...
I doubt that the loss of the 05:29 Doncaster to Cleethorpes service would be too much of a bad thing. From what i've seen & heard, you struggle to get more than one handful of passengers on that service. All it is is a glorified empty stock move, anyway.
Just because EMT terminate most of...
Even the 17:22 ex. Lincoln (brought forward by a minute these days, and starts from Newark North Gate at 16:45) is booked for a single 153 these days. Monday to Thursday. Fridays should see a pair (although that drops to a single car in the Summer...). Recommended to get on that service as soon...
The Signal Boxes are open between 14:00 and 06:00 Monday to Friday, throughout on Saturday to 22:00 (although usually close after the last passenger train if nothing else is booked). I doubt it was Network Rail who "banned" early Lincoln to Doncaster trains. There used to be an issue with the...
More often than not, this will be Class 47 or Class 56 hauled. VERY unusual to see Class 66's on this, and even less often to see a Class 70 on it (only ever been one!). Seems a good bet for Class 56's at the minute.
As others have said, there is no locomotive ban at any point on the Barton-on-Humber branch line. It has been common misbelief for some time now. Back in March, 57002 went through to the terminus on a route learning trip, and for few days over a couple of weeks afterwards, various engineering...
There is also a Compass Tours charter running from Grantham to Cardiff Central on Saturday, with the stock stabling at Doncaster overnight, so this is what both of those trains will be. Again, something from the WCRC stable (Class 47's/57's).
The Grimsby to Immingham Light Railway has a pretty impressive curve between Great Coates Sidings No.1 Junction & Pyewipe Road Signal Box. Changing direction from east to west, it makes a complete 180 degree turn, with a 10mph PSR and a check rail throughout. If you want to see it for yourself...
That's one of the reasons. Another important reason is that the bottom aspect is closest to a driver's line of sight. If the signal is on the ground, then the aspects are the opposite way round (green on bottom, yellow in the middle & red at the top) for this same reason).
I can confirm that. Up Slow from Platform 1 to Loversall Carr Junction, then Up Main all the way to Stoke Junction (no stop at Retford, which was scheduled) & then onto the Up Slow. Stopped for about 15 minutes at Tallington Junction, then trundled down to Peterborough to arrive pretty much on...
