Hi everyone,
I've been wanting to do a Heart of England rover for ages, and finally found the chance to squeeze a 3 in 7 day rover into this week. I started on Saturday 14/07/12 and aim to finish on Thursday of this week. Hope you enjoy these reports - they will hopefully be all up by next...
I was just reading about the Class 365s when I noticed it was 10 years since the tragic events at Potters Bar. The BBC report that memorial services have been held in Hertfordshire, to remember those who were killed.
It doesn't seem like ten years, and I'm sure to those who lost loved ones or...
Just collected a Lincoln - Tamworth off-peak return, from one of EMT's new TOD machines at Lincoln. Didn't check the ticket, as it was amongst others, but now I'm home I've noticed that the 'Valid Until' date is missing from the ticket.
I'm guessing this might be a problem, can anyone confirm...
A local news website in Lincoln has come up with a very convincing April Fools joke (they don't publish at weekends, so it's gone up today) related to Lincoln's infamous railway crossings.
Credit to James Hazel (the reporter) as no-one has twigged yet. I'd comment but it requires you to use...

I collected a Daysave from Victoria yesterday, for use next Wednesday (21/03/12).
The ticket shows it is valid between East Croydon and any Southern train. Why is this? Presumably I can start my journey at Victoria if I wanted to?
Possibly a long shot, but does anyone happen to know which 222 worked the 1B36 11:02 service from Nottingham to St Pancras today?
I forgot to get the number when I got off at Leicester.
Thanks!
Private Eye magazine (issue 1307) has picked up on the issue of ticket validity on Southern's 'Gatwick Express' services. An issue which has been the source of much debate on here.
The Eye points out that GatEx was merged into Southern in 2008, but is still treated as a premium service -...
I've got quite a few trips planned for the early part of 2012, so I've decided to write up some of them here - as I've always enjoyed reading other peoples trip reports, and hope people will enjoy reading these.
East Midlands Rover
I'd not planned to do an East Midlands Rover, but a spur of...
The BBC are reporting that passenger numbers at East Midlands Parkway have risen almost 120% - with around 450,000 journeys made from the station over the past year.

Thought this may be of interest, given recent discussions on whether the station...
Was travelling on a 158 earlier today and the carriage lighting kept dropping off. This happened the first time when the doors were closed on departure from a station, then came on as the doors were released at the next. For the rest of the journey the lights were alternating between on and off...

I'm not sure what to make of it.
Optare have announced on their website that the standard Optare Solo model, introduced in 1997, is to be retired. From Summer 2012, only the Solo SR will be available - with additional models introduced.

Deliveries of any further units of S Stock have been temporarily suspended while Bombardier make some modifications to improve reliability.

Exactly what is says really.
I'm wondering what lines people are hoping to travel on, or cross off in 2012? I've got a few on my list;
Brighton main line; done as far south as Gatwick (via Redhill and avoiding line) so need to do the remainder. Possibly coupled with a day out on Southern...
Crawley based Astraeus Airlines have entered administration and ceased operations today (22/11/11). In recent years the company had specialised in wet-leasing its aircraft to other carriers and was noted for employing Iron Maiden front man Bruce Dickinson as a captain on its Boeing 757 fleet...
Here are some pictures from yesterdays Farewell 150 tour. I really enjoyed myself and it was nice seeing a few people from the forum there too.

A bit of an odd question, but have any Class 37s been working around Lincolnshire recently? Thought I heard one pass my house earlier today - but wouldn't have made it outside in time to check. I live next next to the line between Lincoln and Grimsby.
I might be hearing things, but it didn't...
