If i might add a point here. It is highly likely that if the OP friends were reported that the original tickets would have been withdrawn and a zero fare ticket issued. It would be more likely that the confirmation email if they still have it would provide more answers of which train and ticket...
As an RPI myself my policy is i will sell a ticket when a disabled railcard is shown. Not entirely sure where i would stand with the Equality act if i refused.
Unless your travelling on CrossCountry who's policy it is to excess
The OP states that they did not know of the minimum fare before 10am. Actually it is in the terms and conditions of your railcard which should ALWAYS be read and railcard signed.
The gateline staff at the station where im based will always come down to the train to speak to the train crew if there's an issue then they leave the decision up to our crews if we take the person
I imagine you will be able to settle out of court some TOC's accept as little as £80 some closer to £200 but i would strongly advise this as a better option than going to court which would cost considerably more
I believe in this situation the best course of action is to wait for a letter from AGA and take things from there. You might be looking at possibly an out of court settlement. My best bit of advice is simply to check your tickets when you purchase them to ensure you have the correct ticket for...
Completely agree with this. How is fair that someone on an advance ticket from a to b pays for argument sake £20 and gets a seat yet someone with an open full priced ticket pays £80? having someone booked on a train but no seat gives full priced fare paying passengers a chance to sit down.
Sadly this behaviour is all too common with Rugby fans or should i say the rugby fans in my neck of the woods. I dread having Rugby games on my train simply because they have no manners and no respect. Give me football fans any day of the week.
I must make it clear that these are my views...
I always ask to see Railcards as it a part of my job to ensure any discount is correct. I had one person moan that i was asking to see it as the booking office had seen it to which i replied was i person in the booking office who sold you that ticket? The said person was most surprised.
The...
Railcards are my biggest pet hate.
Passengers who have read the terms and conditions of advance/print at home tickets and then become argumentative when they havent followed the t&c's
Bikes on trains not in the clearly marked cycle section
I think im one of the more lenient Revenue staff for my TOC but in all honesty i dont find TVM's the easiest things to understand myself. I personally dont hold it against someone if the station booking office is closed and only TVM's are available i will sell whatever ticket is being requested...
Speaking from my own experience i dont look for so called easy targets i look for those clearly committing an offence but even then you take every situation as you find it and deal with it accordingly. Sadly revenue protection staff get a bad name yet when we are perceived to do nothing we get...
Personally i find Rugby fans a lot worse than football fans. Typically you might get some gobby football fans but generally i find there ok they know its dead easy to get on the blower for BTP. Rugby fans fans dont have that fear. When the Leicester Tigers are playing i dread work and know its...
Could be that all reservable seats on that service are taken. Have you thought about using the 10 minute reservation system? Never used it myself so couldnt offer advice on how it works
I would imagine although im happy to be corrected that any meals ordered would be delivered from stations that have a service center which i think are Edinburgh Newcastle Manchester Birmingham Bristol and Plymouth (i think ive missed some off that list) not that i see this being a huge problem
I had a passenger speak to me at the back of the train before boarding a few months back explained what was happening so i took a brief description of the fare evader and was able to deal with it. I say to people come have a quiet word if ive missed something because i am only human. I also find...
