Progress on Avanti West Coast's 805/807s Hitachi AT300 sets

No, of course not - Senior Moment! I think of the 0548 as the "early train" and what was for some time the "early train" - the 0448 off HHD, did form the 0902 back! I didn't think even voyagers with their tilt could do the run in three hours!!

Progress on Avanti West Coast's 805/807s Hitachi AT300 sets

I've noticed that too. Dare I hope we've now turned a corner with better working relationships? Just sort these 805s out now! I've noticed one diagram per day still seems to be voyagers - 1R25 0548 Holyhead-Euston, 1D83 0902 EUS-HHD, 1A62 1448 HHD-EUS and 1D93 1902 EUS-HHD. Do we know if...

Progress on Avanti West Coast's 805/807s Hitachi AT300 sets

They swapped it with 1G00 1948 Holyhead-Birmingham New St, causing that to be some 40 mins late. Curious and curioser!

Progress on Avanti West Coast's 805/807s Hitachi AT300 sets

I thought 1R25 0548 Holyhead-Euston was scheduled to still be a Voyager, so was surprised when I booked about 10 days ago for Mrs W. that a seating plan for an 805 appeared, so I duly booked her in to that. So I was not surprised when 221106 turned-up this morning. Apparently the conductor...

    Signal 'peg'

Yes. Thank you indeed to you both, as I've learned something new too. Just an interesting thought - the use of the term "dolly" seems to have extended to bus operations also. A small, ground signal in railway parlance and a temporary, smaller bus-stop sign at the roadside - a dolly stop.

Progress on Avanti West Coast's 805/807s Hitachi AT300 sets

I suspect the seat reservation system is turned-off the 805s at present until the Voyagers have gone and AWC is certain it will be an 805. My wife journeyed back from Euston tonight on the 1901, which I assume was booked as an 805 as the website showed the seating plan for a new unit when she...

Bizarre routing restriction Bangor - Liverpool

My wife tried it a little while ago when the Avanti connection was cancelled between Manchester Piccadilly and Crewe, and the TfW conductor just raised his eyes skywards and said "Avanti up to their tricks again?" and passed on.

You know you’re getting older when……

When I was at theological college we had a lecturer who said "When I wake-up, if I'm in my pyjamas its time for mass - it not its time for tea! When you stare and marvel at the many types of artisan breads and different-flavoured bottles of Listerine etc on the supermarket shelves, and long for...

Progress on Avanti West Coast's 805/807s Hitachi AT300 sets

I trust AWC is confident that a sufficient number of staff are now trained on 805s, otherwise "This train is cancelled due to a lack of qualified staff" could join the sorry saga of apologies from AWC.

Progress on Avanti West Coast's 805/807s Hitachi AT300 sets

I tried to book on the Avanti website for a journey from Euston to Rhyl on the 1901 on Sunday, 2nd June, and got a different seating plan from that of the Voyagers. So perhaps the intention is that will be an 805. Mind you, last time I tried to book that service, it was cancelled!

    Avanti West Coast Cancellations

I can remember during the last years of Virgin when there were 3 trains from Euston to Holyhead on a Sunday night - the 1708, 1808 and 1908. Last night there were none. The altered 1801 terminated at Chester and the 1901 was terminated at Crewe. My wife changed her plans and caught the 1801, to...

What happened to that? It doesn't seem to be on any more.

You know you’re getting older when……

You're really getting old when you reflect on the debate over the quality of music on this new-fangled Radio 2, that you used to know it as the Light Programme.

Trivia: More than one operator on town services

It certainly does  To add yet another to the pot, whereas Arriva operates the town services in Rhyl, there is one interesting exception in that M&H Coaches runs a twice-a-day service 47 to Brynhedydd & Highfield Park in marginal time on its service 45 to Glan Clywd Hospital.

    Manchester Metrolink (Non speculative discussion)

Didn't a dmu come to grief, running away down the incline into Middlelton station, and smashing through the blocks? I was familiar with part of your journey, as the dmu from the Calder Valley would speed through the station and crossovers at Middleton Junction, then after passing though Newton...

Attitude of neighbouring TOCs to an unreliable one?

In connection with my thread on AWC "updated" journeys, I just sometimes wonder what is the attitude of Transport for Wales towards Avanti West Coast? AWC occasionally terminate one of their Euston- Holyheads at Crewe, or start a journey from Holyhead at Crewe. The usual spiel about you may...

    AWC Updated service

I received an interesting email last Saturday telling me my intended service from North Wales to London by Avanti West Coast had been "updated" Does this mean I'd been moved to 1st class, or would be given a complimentary cup of coffee, I wondered? No - my train had been cancelled - something...

Duplicate Trains Running in the Path of Late Runners

It happens occasionally at Chester, where Transport for Wales has both a train and staff depot. If a train on the Cardiff-Holyhead and vv corridor is running late, it is terminated at Chester, and a different train sets out from Chester to either Cardiff or Holyhead in the original times. This...
