TOPS Requests (including headcodes, allocations, traction, etc) [Instructions in Post 2]

Just wondering if anyone has a clue to what type of train will work 5Z50 St Philips Marsh to Long Marston GBRf tomorrow (23rd) and Thursday (24th) (RTT http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/K97585/2019/01/23/advanced ). It's timed as a HST but it's been some years since any Class 43s have been...

Ideas for improving the North Cotswold Line

There's talk in the local papers of restoring the route from Honeybourne to Stratford and providing an Evesham to Birmingham service that way, surely that's more speculative than redoubling the existing line? The opening of Worcestershire Parkway will reduce the capacity on the stretch from...

Trivia - Obsolete Railway Terms still used

The term 'headcode' is used to refer to the National Reservations System number for passenger trains, not the signalling id or train reporting number that many people call a 'headcode'. I didn't realise 'feather' was an unofficial term, it must be used as often as the official equivalent.

TOPS Requests (including headcodes, allocations, traction, etc) [Instructions in Post 2]

Shouldn't need any specialist information to find the route, it looks like 9K60 1933 Orpington to West Hampstead Thameslink arriving a few minutes early. See http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/W64187/2018/12/03/advanced . Anyway, I came to the thread to ask a question: please may I have the...

I can't give an answer from TOPS/TRUST, though this working appeared in my Flickr feed as 66133 and 66024: https://www.flickr.com/photos/jonhorrocks/32273791468

    Canon versus Nikon

Well done, that sounds like a great kit. The 35mm lens would have to be my first choice if starting out with the Nikon system.

    Remaining GWR HST Diagrams

1W01 10:22 London Paddington to Hereford was a HST today (43193 leading & 43174); 1W25 12:21 London Paddington to Worcester Shrub Hill was also reported HST but I didn't see it. Both of these had changed to IET operation.

GWR Intercity Express Train (IEP) initial diagrams & allocations

1L28 and 1L40, the 07:02 and 08:37 Worcester Shrub Hill to London Paddington (via Cheltenham) services were both showing as 9 coaches (Class 800/3) on passenger information systems. 1L40 is usually a HST (I do not recall another instance of it being an 800).

Cotswold Line platform extension work autumn 2018

Works at Evesham are looking extensive. There are a couple of temporary signs dotted about near Lower Moor (a few miles north of Evesham), perhaps these are indicating a TSR and will be seen to this week. Tamper DR75407 'Gerry Taylor' travelled as 6J84 09:33 Canton Taff Vale Sidings to...

Named trains - is there any point?

You are absolutely right and a web search would have told me that. Apologies to anyone I've misled. Perhaps that shows how putting a name on a train does have an impact on travellers.

Named trains - is there any point?

There was a time when The Cathedrals Express only stopped at cathedral cities. Its stopping pattern is now similar to most Cotswold Line trains. One named train with a unique route is the Pembroke Coast Express; one train a day on Summer Saturdays direct from Paddington to Pembroke Dock...

    Canon versus Nikon

I was in the same boat not long ago, finding that I had reached the limitations of my Panasonic bridge camera. After doing some research online, I bought a second hand Canon 60D with a zoom lens. The Canon has given me very little trouble. My major complaint is that the camera and lens are...
