In my case, in my last EV (just upgraded) I reached £1000 fuel cost at ~48800 miles. That's a mixture of (early on) free supermarket etc., charging, overnight cheap rate and some "full price" roadside chargers.
My new car (only ~1 month's experience of it) has a much greater range and that...
You can always power it by a separate connection. It would allow you to separate (within the phone's WiFi range) the phone (for good 5g) and the router (for best property coverage).
Depending on your router's abilities, you may be able to do that without a USB tether, by using the router to pick up the phone's WiFi signal and use it to get its network service. This is the relevant UI in my router:
in which I'd simply choose my phone's network in the (empty in this shot)...
That was where my head was at. Agree about Nunnery, although there was, briefly, pre-covid, twice as many Worksop-bound services. As to whether we'll ever see a return of the Retford/Gainsborough shorts (or even through to/from Cleethorpes more frequently) is a separate question - but it would...
What, if any, impact might "simply" reworking the entire physically constrained 2-track section immediately north of Sheffield, such that both tracks are fully bi-directional, have? (Without studying existing track layout - including any helpful addition of new crossovers to enable all and any...
I agree. Where there is a choice, though, is in the vehicle they choose to buy. I wonder what proportion of people
a) currently
b) would (under such a scheme)
consider what the emissions of the car/s they are choosing to buy are.
No, it does not. It penalises you for choosing to do so using something that pours out planet-destroying toxic schist whenever it is used.
In any case, as I was at pains to point out, the numbers I used were NOTHING MORE than to illustrate the point - to extreme perhaps.
My off-peak overnight rate is currently fixed at 4p/unit inc VAT. That will fall by just under 0.2p when no VAT. To be fair, that's an unusually low rate; approx. double that (very variable between providers) is perhaps a better yardstick. So let's say 0.4p per unit VAT drop.
My car covers...
I suspect that you may possibly be thinking through this with a "fill it up at a filling station" mindset (with apologies if you aren't) which, if it were universally the case, would indeed be a suitable way to go.
But as I and others have attempted to point out - much EV charging is done at...
Too easy to avoid. My (and I suspect most) home charger(s) use exactly the same mains power supply and meter as the rest of the house. Yes, the charger itself knows how many units it has dispensed, but in order to apply a levy to that, the figure would have to be reported somewhere. And that...
I can see a case for a scheme that operates in much the same way as monthly Direct Debits work for (eg) domestic energy consumption, whereby one provides an annual mileage estimate pending an actual "meter reading" (mileage at MOT) and that is used, alongside any + or - carried over figure, to...
IF (if!) we are to persuade people looking for their next car (new or used) to consider BEVs rather than ICEs, then adding further cost to roadside charging will not help. The problem is that for whatever reason/s (or excuses) the cost per mile of roadside charging is already i.e. without any...
There are manufacturers who are with or ahead of the game here and in Europe (and anywhere else where EV use is either dominant or promoted) and won't have difficulty with these targets; and those who aren't and will. If Big ICE Motor find themselves without a market in a given territory (for...
As I've said before: I have absolutely NO sympathy for those involved with this. It says to me nothing more than that they have been too idle/lazy to advance their thinking. It's not as if this was sprung upon them at short notice. The boardrooms must have seen this and decided to carry on...
@martin butler Range is decreasingly an issue. My new car has a nominal range of ~350 miles and I very likely will get more in real-life use. And will add something like 200 miles to that in ~20 minutes at a high powered DC charging station. That trend will, I suspect, become more the "norm"...
At the risk of veering back towards the EV thread this was meant to diverge from - I still don't get why it is that, when discussing used EVs (EV "bangernomics"?) some keep banging on about 8 years as if that's a cliff edge when any EV will need an expensive new battery imminently. It appears...
Depends on the "why" of it (including as regards how it is "sold" as a scheme). If it's sold on a primarily environmental basis then it matters not where in the world the car is used; it causes the same global damage.
@KHCT Repeating: illustrative numbers to help make the point. Which is: if it makes you think twice about either replacing that car now, or about what to choose when you next do so, and makes you choose something less polluting, then it will benefit you, your patients and the entire world...
It addresses infrastructure, yes. However as far as the air/climate/etc., at the point of use is concerned it's going to be very inaccurate. My EV weighs not far from 2 tonnes, but produces no gas pollution at all at the point of use and fewer brake dust particles through regenerative...
