    Stoke-on-Trent Units

They were originally stored at Long Marston after the accident. Presumably moved on for removal of spare parts.

Autumn refresh for GWR Class 165/166 Turbos

The cab end bogie is unpowered, the two axles of the bogie at the opposite end are both powered. The centre vehicles of the 3 car units are the same with one powered and one unpowered bogie.

Stations that are over a river in the UK?

It’s a little more than a corner of platform 2, approximately 45 metres of the western end of platform 2 is above the River Avon, almost the whole span of the bridge that it sits on.

Total Destruction Order (TDO) Scrapping Process

I have heard of these so called total destruction orders before, is it even a real thing. What would be the point, the trains get destroyed in the scrapping process anyway and it’s not as if we are talking about the disposal of top secret military hardware or anything like that, just the...

    15X and 16X multiple working

Looks like possibly some incorrect information must have been entered into the system as in reality it is impossible for a 150 / 166 combination to work together in multiple.

Autumn refresh for GWR Class 165/166 Turbos

The fabric and leather seats you describe are at opposite ends of 166205. The badly stained fabric seats are in the unclassified former first class area in vehicle 58126 and the leather seats are in the first class area in 58105.

Trivia: unwritten etiquette as a railway passenger

If I am travelling on a train I always have my bag on the adjacent seat if there are a lot of spare seats available, then as the train starts to fill up with more passengers I then remove my bag from the seat. If I encountered someone like yourself who insisted on sitting next to me just because...

    Non-Urgent TOPS Requests

When I was passing Laira today I saw 7 FGW livery HST power cars in the depot. Does anyone know the identities of these power cars please.

    Sprinter Extinction

Definitely sounds like an urban myth, as both the 150/1s and 150/2s were all built at York.

    Non-Urgent TOPS Requests

Today I saw TFW 231010 with another 231 on test, it was on 3Q64 1400 Hullavington - Newport. Does anyone know the identity of the other unit with 231010. Thanks

    A363 Bridge replacement Bradford-on-Avon

I pass under that bridge regularly and have often wondered when it will be replaced. Due to its position with no nearby space to locate a large road crane combined with the difficulty of any large heavy haulage vehicles accessing that part of Bradford on Avon, I imagine that the new bridge deck...

    387s Cardiff - London

Although the 387s are more closely matched to the IETs than the 117s were to the HSTs. The 387s have superior acceleration to the IETs and a maximum speed only 15mph lower, whereas the 117s had inferior acceleration to the HSTs and a maximum speed 50mph lower.

Which British city should host Eurovision 2023?

What a load of nonsense! I voted to leave the EU, doesn’t mean that I hate Europe or foreigners.

    Southern Class 455 Withdrawal

The brakes are functional on the 455s, the barrier vehicles are used as the couplings are not compatible with the GBRF 66s and also they have equipment on board to translate the loco’s air brakes with the brakes on the 455s. When similar moves are operated by Rail Operations Group, barrier...

Why would you build a modern freight wagon without bogies?

I believe the idea behind shocvans was by using longitudinal springs to connect the body to the under frame it then provided protection to fragile items being carried in these vans being damaged by forces in the horizontal direction during rough shunting moves (hump shunting etc).

    Class 43 disposals

Last year when the first pair of former EMT power cars were taken to Newport docks it ran as class 5, even though it was just loco and power cars. As I waited for it to pass Severn Tunnel Junction I was expecting some coaches with the power cars due to the class 5 headcode.
