My Lancs Day Ranger was rejected by staff at Wigan North Western with their hand held scanner thing. The VT staff member in question said it wouldn't be valid as Wigan was considered part of Greater Manchester rather than Lancashire. Oddly enough, the gates at Manchester Oxford Road worked...
Reading the comments - it's a great debate, I thought I'd add in my $0.02 worth.
Firstly is the possible conversion or sharing with the trams. A lot of noise has been made with the "Trams to Lytham" group and they have carried out their own study - all be it somewhat biased in favour of light...
Heard this before but there's always hope that we will see something happen on the South Fylde line. I've extracted the text as the Blackpool Gazette site is awful without a good ad blocker.
MPs unite to press for South Fylde rail line improvements
Fylde MP Mark Menzies and his Blackpool...
I can second that. Getting on at Bristol usually means standing until Cheltenham if I'm lucky. Thankfully the service back to Preston usually starts at Birmingham, so can usually get a seat on that.
VT done something similar back in 2009 that if you upgraded to weekend first then you would be entered into a draw for a cab ride. I don't think it went ahead (if memory from 11 years ago serves me correctly) either the unions or 'elf and safety stopped it from happening.
Nice idea though.
If memory serves me right, they ran 4 car services to terminate at Ansdell & Fairhaven and used RRB for the services from Preston to St Annes, Squires Gate, Pleasure Beach and Blackpool South.
I think the cost of reinstating the bridges would put the project onto being unaffordable. Also, according to the Gazette, the funding to build "whatever" on the old Central Station has been approved, so that would be out. Generally, I've not heard anyone moan about getting off at South...
Posted this in the speculative ideas forum by mistake.
The local MP's are getting involved (again) to get something moving on getting a passing loop on the line .... (I used OCR to convert the image to text so the text is a bit wonky here and there).

There used to be back in the day, but long since closed https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Lancashire_Railway. There has been talk of reinstating Burscough Curves which would allow a direct service from Preston to Southport, but I've not heard anything recently about that happening. Probably...
I'm looking to get a season ticket from Lytham to Manchester Pic @ £128.40 weekly.
To give me some sort of flexibility for when the South Fylde line goes belly up, is it possible to get the season ticket to be made valid from Blackpool North but still use it on the Blackpool South trains...
I've was on a 158 from Glasgow to Preston back in the 90's where one of the units engines had failed. Going uphill to Beattock was an absolute struggle and we ended up 60 late at Carlisle. Rather than cancel at Carlisle, it continued to Preston (and onwards to Liverpool) where it had the same...
Don't be. Feedback - positive and negative is needed and hopefully the feedback that is provided on this site is taken on board. I wonder how realistic the conditions that the testing team work in - for example, can they buy a ticket in 30 seconds while someone shines a torch in their face and...
