    railway dispute, incorrect info given

Or pay it on a credit card or see if you can get a loan etc. just beware of people who lend money who seem like friends but then want interest. It may not always seem like it but this is loan sharking and seriously… don’t. The advice on submitting an appeal to stop the clock whilst you...

    railway dispute, incorrect info given

According to National Rail Enquiries there’s a ticket office, albeit a part time one and ticket machines at Aston. Why didn’t you use these? In any case if there genuinely was no opportunity to pay, and only then, you buy from onboard staff or at interchange or destination, not buy a short ticket.

    railway dispute, incorrect info given

If as you say there is no ticket machine or booking office at your origin then the penalty fare can be appealed. Others will know if this the case. Personally I’d be surprised if there wasn’t a machine.

    railway dispute, incorrect info given

What do you mean it was “passed the time”? Did you buy a ticket on a mobile phone whilst on the train? If so, why didn’t you do so before you boarded? Were there ticket machines or a booking office where you boarded? I see you used the train line app but was this when you were already on the...

    Acceptance Inconsistencies

Furthermore if there was say disruption on the ECML North of Newcastle they sometimes allow you to travel via Carlisle to Edinburgh/Glasgow. What happens if you’re on the train to Carlisle, effectively committed and acceptance ends with Avanti and TPE? I believe we had a dispute involving just...

They have up to six months to lay papers before the courts, so give it another few months I'm afraid.

    Hull Leisure Return station availability

On the Hull Trains website the following is shewn: Yet when I went to Selby ticket office the clerk was physically unable to sell it. She was very apologetic and said that it hadn't been loaded on to their system and that this has been brought up internally by ticket office staff. I did note...

    Ticket Fine Appeal

Who is the operator? Presumably you mean the guard? And not the assistant at the ticket office? Was there a ticket office? Or machine that accepts cash? At which station was this?

Shame I'll be at work, may have to listen to it on Sounds if possible.

Discussion About Whether Fare Evasion Should be Decriminalised

No, fare evasion should probably not be decriminalised. What would probably work better in the interests of the genuine passenger is to decriminalise honest mistakes. The Regulation of Railways Act 1889 s5 has served us well and for a long time, the byelaws brought in in 2005 are a whole...

    Buying a ticket to/from a station group

Oh quite! That'swhy I said 'appropriate Manchester Station or London Terminal'. This is particularly relevant in the case of London Terminals, if the OP wanted to travel on a Thameslink train having travelled via Chesterfield they would have to alight at St Pancras, despite some of the further...

    Buying a ticket to/from a station group

In the case of, say, Manchester to London, the 'any permitted' tickets are 'Manchester Stations' to 'London Terminals', as are the 'Via Chesterfield' tickets (though in practice that would mean going to St Pancras on the London end rather than Euston). However the advances routed Avanti West...

    Reform UK discussion

Assuming of course a Reform government would allow that. The mainstream unioninst parties have been quite cold on indyref2, one can only imagine a Reform government would be outright hostile to such a prospect and constitutionally it is not within Scotland's gift to secede unilaterally. Were I...

    Reform UK discussion

Whether or not it is racist, it is xenophobic and it is also stupid. Small boat arrivals constitute a very small proportion of immigrants to this country, though I grant you they have driven illegal immigration in the past couple of years. The data also suggest that there has been an increase...

Which ticket retail booking system / database does NRE use to decide if routes are permitted

Whilst any reasonable route was not in itself codified were there not a series of tests internally that guards, revenue etc were told to apply to determine whether a route was reasonable? I remember one being that if travel was not away from the destination AND the far from A to B and B to C...

    Fraudulently claiming refunds

I second this advice, with some potential caveats: Of course the first point is to be proven and in the absence of proof we shall assume it is indeed a friend or similar... Furthermore, be aware that many other ticketing apps are white label trainline offerings. I don't know if anyone has a...

Photo ID for Chiltern Season Ticket

Interesting. Required on the network? Or required with a Chiltern smartcard? If the former, it's going to cause problems when someone who legitimately uses an Avanti/WMR* smartcard wants to make a permitted diversion from their normal route? Or use their smart season as part of a split...

    Windows 95 turns 30

Ah Windows 95! I remember our first 'proper PC' in 1996, a Compaq Presario 7230 with Windows 95, 8 MB RAM, Pentium 120mhz and a whopping 1mb of (2d) video RAM. OF course it was confusing installing software as many of the manual were referring to windows 3.x instead, which used a completely...

Had to buy new ticket due to delayed service

Erm... Have you ever tried getting hold of a member of staff at York late at night? Even worse when you need one for a specific TOC. I've had to spend nearly an hour scouring the station up and down when the last train's been cancelled and I'd just finished work. Clearly that wouldn't be...
