@Falcon1200 - so just to be clear, the section from AP to HN is permanently isolated from the section N of HN to Stevenage
- i.e. no specific action is required in an event like this, power remains on to HN and trains are free to run and reverse at HN including sidings?
So is it solely up to...
Thanks chaps for the clarification.
I suspect you're right about GTR
GTR's HN service seems as if its bound up with that of Welwyn.
Whilst I fully understand they use a common pathway after FP, is there a reason why disruption on the Welwyn service should cause disruption to HN's services?
A...
Thank you @Falcon1200 for the kind response.
Can I therefore ask - given the thousands of people that travel this line to HN at least - what would be the cost of retrospectively adding a neutral section - given the cost and inconvenience of cancelling the service for the period involved (twice)...
Why isn't there an isolation point N of Hertford North so that Moorgate to Hertford N services could run and turn round.
This is the second time recently a failure on the main line has led to the loss of the Hertford Loop services.
I don't think that's acceptable and in my view points to a short...
So in the end Tangmere did run from York to Edinburgh and back successfully - and thanks to those who have posted videos of the event.
I say hats off to RTC and Carnforth for the achievement which many will have enjoyed and be grateful for.
Posts #24&26 above, were ill informed and above all...
I see from RTC that "This special steam hauled with locomotive No. 34067 Tangemere, will run at speed both ways from York to Edinburgh and return. There will be time in Edinburgh to visit the sights, including the extensive Christmas Market located in Princes Street Gardens, before we return...
Hi @gm671 - that sounds authoritative.
So no loss of power at HN platforms 1, 2 & 3.
The signalling was obviously working at Gordon Hill and a freight train came all the way through.
So do you know beyond which point the signalling was failed and how the freight train passed all those signals...
@Nicholas Lewis - thank you for that.
Someone will know - just hoping they feel honest enough to share.
Be nice if the 'big boys' (NT & GN) who are paid as such, acted as such.
Thank you @Gerald Fiennes - no it didn't.
I have found that asking direct questions about OLE can be a prickly subject.
Surely some form of OLE isolation either side of major turnback sites - e.g. HN - should be mandatory in order to avoid massive 'single point of failures' (SPFs) -such as this...
Thanks @Robski
So the issue at HN isn't signals or points but OLE - our old 'single point of failure' nemesis - why can't the OLE be isolated on the N side of HN - i.e. on the far side of a crossover - so that problems in Stevenage don't cripple HN.
Given that nothing else is managing to get past Gordon Hill for passengers, how come 4E97 has managed to come through HN change track twice avoiding Watton at Stone and sail passed P4 at Stevenage.
With 2F33 still stranded in P5 since midday - what am I missing please?
