Our new ticketing site is now live! Using either this or the original site (both powered by TrainSplit) helps support the running of the forum with every ticket purchase! Find out more and ask any questions/give us feedback in this thread!
Just following up on this and spoken to someone at Avanti who was my contact when we made quite a few large corporate bookings. She confirmed the ticket discount issued by TfW is correct. They can't sell the ticket listed with the 50% discount via the telephone, only at stations.
Doesn't solve...
Looking further down on the link you shared, it has a section marked 'How to buy'. Is the issue that it was purchased on a call, where that ticket type won't be available?
Not particularly. Avanti have been maintaining a high price on 1st class tickets for a number of years. If there is a workaround to that, I haven't found it. Like others, it is SP normally at best for me, as that is where the value lies.
They are phasing in more services to the timetable over time. Looks like the current schedule doesn't see weekend services running until Saturday 13th June.
I know the owner / operator of the waxis in Manchester. He gave it a good go and tried quite a lot of different approaches and attempts at marketing, but it just wasn't feasible. Even with a very modest sized boat, it didn't stack up economically as the demand wasn't there. The exception was the...
There are 4 or 5 regular rush hour commuters from Leyland who are deaf / with limited hearing. That is why historically some of the staff used to make manual announcements and also follow-up with a quick dash on to platform 1 to grab the attention of passengers on the other platforms.
Between...
I was on the 16:18 from Carlisle to Leeds yesterday, due to connect at Ribblehead or Hellifield on to the Rochdale service and onwards to Preston.
We were held at Kirkby Stephen as crew had been informed of the issues in Leeds. The first update was that we may not be able to continue and would...
Any naivety involved is on how the follow-ups were worded, the technical version of 'mansplaining' to them. There is also an assumption that Northern are obliged to answer and update on everything the OP wishes to know. Yes, Northern should probably have come back with a closing 'There will be...
Having looked at the FOI email chain, they have responded with what you had requested, namely all emails in the time period specified.
They have chosen not to engage any more with you based on your original direct email exchanges with them, which is mentioned in the FOI response.
You have...
Brand tone is my descriptor for applying a word such as 'delicious', as it will align with how Avanti describe their food on their own marketing materials. Similarly, VT did the same prior to Avanti.
It is reasonable for a station announcement to describe services and available facilities. As...
1) Yes it can include what you consider to be promotional activity for TOCs. It is merely a description of available catering, with a bit of brand tone of voice applied.
2) No issue with impartiality, it is just promoting a relevant product to rail travellers. There is no reason why other TOCs...
Indeed. I know no more of the background beyond that, but it is a shame that it has had an impact on staff and other customers.

I have no clue, as I don't know any members of the Friends of, merely seeing some of the good work at the station from a passenger point of view.
I only...
Leyland station is rather on the blacklist according to one of the two regular members of ticket office staff there.
They said that there is a member of the local Friends of the station who has caused a few ripples in past dealings with Northern both in writing and also in person at the...
Labour weren’t in government for the period covered in the article. They didn’t have daily dealings with them, as they would with the government via DfT etc.
This will have been to engage with potential future policy makers prior to being elected.
As @Tazi Hupefi has said, it isn't a new idea or model and has been done and shut down before. Even if it can be facilitated in a way that can't be shutdown, all that will happen is that the delay repay conditions would be changed to maintain the status quo.
There isn't the market for them to be mass produced at a reduced cost, mainly because venues near a station can put up train times if they wish for little to no outlay.
They are a nice bit of fun, but the TV screen or large tablet answer is easily used if a venue wants to do something.
As mdann52 mentioned, sub domains are often not set-up to accept affiliate tracking. If that is the case, the transaction will normally fail, as would a manual claim as well as there won't be a connection between the two. Part of my previous role included management of some affiliate programs...
It is an available option to advertisers nationwide. It doesn’t add much in the way of commercial value due to messaging limitations, hence it is almost exclusively done by organisations based in the location of the station.
The next issue would be Northern operating the service to Blackpool North. We’re lucky if we get a 50% service on some Sundays, so if you really need to get there by a particular time, relying on that service is a bit of a gamble.
That is a strange omission from that list. Blackpool and the route through Lancashire are expected to be very heavily impacted.
Definitely keep an eye on the list being updated.
We are aware of an issue with emails from the Forum to Microsoft-based email accounts (hotmail/outlook/live.com email addresses). This is being looked into currently, thanks for your patience meanwhile.
