Considering most drivers are now on 50k, an extra 10k isn't a great amount once the tax man has taken his share. Years ago when 10k would boost a 30k salary to 40 then maybe drivers would be tempted but I think the money is so high now that people would think very carefully now about selling any...
What rubbish. Someone waiting for a cancelled train, for any reason, which can't run because a conductor is not available can't blame the guards but the managment for allowing a system so reliant on overtime through chronic understaffing to save money and increase profits. As many trains are...
It probably is just a mistake but the entire Twitter account is a joke since GTR took over. The twitterers have no idea of the routes they tweet about or services etc. There have been numerous times passengers have been told to speak to the guard on GN services. It's cost cutting again.
Sums it up nicely. Twitter have clearly been told to place as much blame for things on conductors as they can. Tweeting cancelations because of 'high conductor sickness levels' is disgraceful. 'Unavailable train crew' is all that is needed.
The dft have to find a way of showing that the mcnulty report was worth more than the paper it's printed on. DOO is an easy way of doing this. And the argument "we already do it so it must be safe" is the easy argument which most from outside the industry will buy.
Agreed. Although the bullying and disgraceful letters from the company to staff taking legal strike action shows the companies approach to all industrial relations really.
Like the first injunction, it will be clutching at straws and open to interpretation but down to who's legal team give the best argument in court. It's just their dirty, bullying tactics to deal with this. Why engage with your staff or try to reach an amicable resolution to a dispute you created...
That's exactly it. If the company have evidence someone from Aslef, a rep or someone speaking for Aslef have tried to encourage drivers to stop OT there could be a case to answer.
It seems the ORR are also investigating bullying of staff by GTR regarding the letters sent to guards.
As far as I'm aware, they don't have an agreement.
But if drivers as individuals choose not to volunteer for ANY reason (including their personal views on industrial relations) I can't see how the union can be taken to court. It's voluntary overtime and up to individuals to volunteer to come...
The first injunction was more along the lines of DOO but not about the safety of it, it was around the wording of agreements and that, whilst the agreement was 10car DOO, the driver contracts had a clause along the lines of working to company instructions. The judge ruled this clause overruled...
The court case isn't about DOO. It's about Aslef balloting southern over what GTR claims is a Gatwick only issue (GTR claim they are seperate companies). The injunction also appears to be claiming (from what I understand) that Aslef have taken Unofficial action pre-ballot by having a rest day...
The whole argument around Thameslink running 12 car DOO is a bit of an accident anyway. WAGN negotiated a 12 car agreement as the was no other way of increasing capacity on the Kings X line. The agreement actually states that as 365s have no walk through between units, all 12 cars would, where...
The fact trains can run without them (unlike drivers or guards) is enough to mean no railway job is secure.
On GTR cleaners, RPIs, station staff, ticket office staff and depot staff have all been dismissed with agency staff replacing them or are under serious threat of being made redundant...
Nothing wrong with any of those agreements.
What's unfair about brass?
Why shouldn't rail staff receive free and discounted rail travel? European drivers often get free travel over here...
What's wrong with staff getting a premium payment for working their days off?
Why shouldn't drivers...
Care to name some older agreements still in force which benefit the drivers but are now outdated?
No?
Didn't think so as they have been removed over years of DRIs and pay deals.
Clearly you are a hater of the driving grade and very bitter towards drivers pay and conditions-that much is...
Those payments are from a long time ago. Please read my posts again as clearly you havnt. It was agreed with a far less busy network and before it had been tried elsewhere for any considerable time.
Plus DOO payments no longer exist-they've been swallowed up into salaries long ago. Most DOO...
So to sum up your post, you are another office bod who has never dispatched a rush hour DOO train but believes statistical evidence it's safe regardless of the fact that an entire workforce who spend their working life dispatching rush hour DOO trains claim it isn't?
Absolutely. Put simply, they can not afford to make them redundant as it will cost far too much, considering many have been there since the days of BR.
This is a cheap way of redundancy. Force them into another role, don't replace them when they retire/leave and once the numbers have whittled...
Most drivers do now work to rule with dispatch-Aslef have already issued a statement to members not to move a train of unsure if it's clear for any reason until a safety critical member of staff has been given assistance. Delays happen daily due to this on commuter routes-but they are not going...
I fully expect DOO will come in. My point is that the office bods stating its safe are wrong here-and those of us who know it are ignored.
Those office bods are not the ones who will go to prison when someone is killed, as has happened, due to poor dispatch arrangements linked to DOO. The...
