    It looks about 50 years old and rusted to the track. Don't think much was done to P7 in the 2001 works. Buffer face not compatible with the Class 195 and needs work doing to the deck behind it so it slides correctly on impact

    4m extension and relocation of the signal. To allow 4 cars Class 195s. Civils work should be underway now. Bit of rejigging of insulated rail joints and signalling kit. Commissioning to be done at Christmas. Buffer stop to be replaced at some point too but not until next year.

    That wasn't the gist I got from my skim through the postings, just that "new surveys" would be required without really contemplating what that entailed.

    The track can move (or be moved) more than few mm. A track renewal, for instance could have positioned the track even further away from it's surveyed position than a maintenance tamp. Yes, there are maintenance allowances built into the wire height and track position, but one shouldn't be eating...

    ^^^^ Yes, that - not corrugation. Presumably cyclic top might not be apparent at certain speeds that don't cause the train to resonate so wouldn't always get flagged by the crew.

    If it was resulting in lots of shaking and rattling (rather than sudden jerks or excessive carriage sway) then it could be down to rail corrugation rather than poor track alignment geometry.
