    Firefighter looking at career change

As mentioned elsewhere I'm trying to get in to GWR. The negatives outlined above from Greyhound are clearly a perspective from someone already experienced with the driver role but in my circs (aged 49, kids in their 20s both left home) there isn't great scope for inconveniencing anyone else...

    Firefighter looking at career change

Yeah no probs, just wondered if you knew about it so you can join us  You've obviously been successful and left while I think the other thread seems to be people like me still trying to leave. I'm TVP just now and while I recognise the picture you're painting it's not quite that bad.

    Firefighter looking at career change

This must be the same all over the country. I think the days of the 30 year PC must be well and truly over and I don't begrudge anyone who leaves the job having done 30 years as a PC, it's a pretty thankless job in the main. From the sound of your experiences it sounds pretty grim where you...

Oops, not sure what's happening here. I've never really properly got to grips with loading images onto forums. When I posted originally it showed up. I'll have another go later, any tips on how to make it so everyone can see it? Presumably I need a photo hosting site which isn't Dropbox...

    Future Train Driver for GWR

Well just goes to show that it's anything but a one size fits all kind of job then judging by those replies. Interesting.

    Future Train Driver for GWR

As an outsider I've got in my head that it would make for a more interesting day to be continually stopping as opposed to hardly ever stopping. Or is this the mindset that new and inexperienced people have which fades with time?

    Future Train Driver for GWR

I'm not a driver (and may never be one) but if I were you I'd look on the GWR careers site and thoroughly ingest the skills required to be a driver and aim for a job role and/or life experiences towards them so you can provide the best evidence in any future application.

    Police Officer to Train Driver

This was always a concern for me but throughout my process I always had a choice of dates to attend the different tests so always got away with rest days or times when I was on a late shift, I got lucky. I've got court in March and hoping for a call for a medical soon (like, really hoping) so...
