I would imagine that if you turn up late for the assessments you will not be allowed to sit them. The good news is that your work with the RNLI should give you some great examples if you progress to the MMI.
Fortunately most of the Southern drivers I've come across seem to have a good sense of humour - I think you need it to put up with all the changes going on there - and hopefully will appreciate my comment was not meant seriously!
Bad luck Jay_C85. I also failed my DMI with Southern. I felt terrible for a while and couldn't bring myself to use the trains for a month. Plus I hardly got any feedback as the HR person said the DM's handwriting was so bad she could barely read it! Happily though I learnt from the experience...
GA are one of the few TOCs that seem to be happy to accept applications from candidates wishing to relocate. I applied for a depot over 100 miles from where I live and was successful. You need to have relocated/be very close to relocating at the end of your 6 month probationary period.
Yeah, website really frustrating - keep getting timed out - even as I submitted the assessment. Very poor - the website is about as reliable as their train service!

Yes the job description sounded very interesting which is why I applied - and like you I have no problem with the shifts (provided they are rostered fairly) - that's what you expect when you join the railway. However I've found (as you have) that further info has not been very forthcoming...
