London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

I used this very service a few weeks back out of King's Cross. After serving everyone from London they didn't do another round of orders until after Newark, and even then it sounded like they'd basically run out of hot food (it was sandwiches or dessert only from what I overheard).

    Chiltern Railways Business Zone

Just to confirm I was on a first class ALR last week and used the Chiltern Business Zone without any problems. Indeed, one train didn't have it, and the conductor apologised and said I could go and get a free drink from the static trolley, but as it was five carriages away I didn't bother!

    Gathursty Goes Mad in Dorset

These are based on my visits to the area, which have mostly centred on Bournemouth. The Swanage Railway is a good little operation (perhaps not so little, really, quite intensive!). Corfe Castle is the name of the village as well as the castle! If you like bus trips, there's a couple to...

ATW to Rebrand Gerald Premier Service

They may not be exactly what is on the website - I dined last Wednesday and although it was broadly similar to menu five one of starter (sardines instead of mussels) and one main (lamb steak instead of beef pie) were different.

Nottingham to London on 27th June

If you want full English you'll need to be on the 07.10 from Nottingham (which is an HST), all others up to and including the 08.05 are light breakfast only, or you could change at Leicester and pick up one of the ex-Sheffield services which does a full breakfast. Not sure what time the...

    EMT hot food

I've not used it in a while but the stuff I've had from the All Day Menu has always been decent and is good value, although they didn't always have everything available. I don't think you can expect free wine, thats only out of London in the evening peak as far as I know, but you'll get tea...

Nottingham to London on 27th June

...except on the 08.32 from Nottingham, which does offer a full breakfast service (the only 'proper' food service at the weekend on the network I believe). They recommend you book an inclusive ticket for it, the London Day Out looks good value as it includes First Class travel, parking and a...

    CallySleeper's Scottish Summer adventure 2015

I was on the West Highland on Monday and the trolley was good value - hot drinks (except Cappucino) at £1.60, £1.90 with a chocolate bar or £2.30 with a piece of cake (except they didn't have any on either journey!). Compared to what you pay elsewhere, I think that's very good.

Advice please on All Line Rover in June / July

So as I read that you can get round the 10am rule by buying a ticket from the nearest station, even if your train doesn't stop there? (Finsbury Park for KX, Kentish Town for St P etc) For the record 19c says... You may use two or more tickets for one journey as long as together they cover...

    East Midlands Parkway....A failed station?

For the service pattern, northbound there's not much you can do to spread them out: xx.00 Corby (not much help!) xx.15 Fast Nottingham xx.26 Semi-Fast Sheffield xx.29 Slow Nottingham xx.58 Fast Sheffield So the only way to spread the service out would be to get the fast Sheffield to...

    BITE card

Exactly - its not really that well advertised, is it? I can't imagine that SSP are going to lose that many customers from this, as I'm doubtful they've had so many in the first place. I still like the Pumpkin Hot Chocolate (as those who've read my trip reports will see!) so will still use it...

Ffestiniog Round Robin - which way round?

Thanks for the comments. The prevalence of hot chocolate is down to the fact that I don't like tea or coffee and am trying to avoid fizzy drinks! I like the Pumpkin Hot Chocolate though, and decent value with a Bite card. Llandudno station just looks depressing to me because the two-coach...

Ffestiniog Round Robin - which way round?

Thanks all - unanimous then! Just got to hope for that 12 minute connection at Blaenau! --- old post above --- --- new post below --- So, yesterday was my chosen day for this – I looked at the weather and it was promising sunshine in Mid and North Wales, albeit with a cloudy start. If I was...

Ffestiniog Round Robin - which way round?

Following on from my recent North West Rover thread, I've got a bit of time off in the next couple of weeks and would like to do the Ffestiniog Round Robin (now that the Cambrian is fully open again). I'll be starting at Nottingham and then getting the version which includes travel from...

    Settle and Carlisle service question

Very much agree with the above - in my (albeit limited) use of this service the numbers getting on/off at Skipton aren't especially significant and certainly a large number of people from Settle use it to travel to Leeds. There also seems to be a significant flow of walkers from Horton...

    NW Rover this weekend

I wasn't sure if my first posting had made it, but I think it was awaiting moderator approval? Here is the rest, anyway... Day 2 – Sunday I had booked myself breakfast in my Premier Inn for Sunday morning – I know it’s not the cheapest but I thought availing myself of the buffet would be...

    My AllLine Rover Report

I think Gunnislake is my favourite of all the Devon/Cornwall branch lines. Looe and St Ives are justly famous, but the Tamar Valley offers equally good scenery (and for longer) - underneath the Tamar crossings then alongside the River, across the Tavy, up to the lovely station at Bere Ferrers...

Settle to Carlisle route: could loco hauled stock be allocated?

Not necessarily - I used this service a couple of weeks ago from Preston and it was a 158/153 combo (and needed all 3 carriages).

    NW Rover this weekend

Day 1 – Saturday I know some people here start these things at 5am – I wasn’t up that early but did get on the bus into Nottingham at about 6.40am in good time for the 0712 Northern service to Leeds. I had time for a Sausage Cob and a Hot Chocolate from the Pumpkin (now issuing buy 8 get 9...
