Thanks for all the advice. At Bad Bentheim we waited a further hour for a new locomotive which never turned up, hence the additional delay.
@AlbertBeale in hindsight I probably should have gone down that route… but in the heat of the moment I wasnt thinking straight and was most concerned with...
Hello
Today I was travelling on IC 146 from Osnabrück to Amsterdam, departing at 13:53.
Upon arrival in Bad Bentheim the train ground to a halt, there was a problem with the locomotive and some issues with the track ahead I believe. After around 1 hour of waiting I had to take a regional train...
National rail is showing passenger trains from Acton Main Line to Abbey Wood today - presume this must be an error? It’s also stopping at Bond Street…!
If I was in London I’d be tempted to head out to Acton to see!
Not sure anyone knows exactly how they score it - but I understand you’re scored against others who’ve applied for the role rather than there being a strict pass/fail mark. Could be wrong on that though.
if you do a search on this forum for Grid Challenge, you’ll see that lots of people have found it very tough! Personally I was sure I’d failed that one but I still managed to get through - so don’t give up hope yet!
I think I heard after about 1 week, but timescales vary depending on the role.
Thanks for the advice guys. Unfortunately the sleeper was a big part of the trip for them and they were very excited to travel on it.
Therefore they have moved their booking to the Tuesday night which hopefully won’t be affected! Fingers crossed!
Hi all,
My parents are trying to take the sleeper from Kingussie to London on Thursday 15th September, which is the RMT strike date.
Could someone recommend best course of action? I’m assuming the Thursday night sleeper won’t run as during the night there won’t be sufficient signalling staff...
It’s 2tph to each of Heathrow T4 and T5, so trains every 15 minutes. From May 2023 it will increase to 6tph.
From November you won’t need to go up a level at Paddington, the train will continue west through a tunnel and come out near Westbourne Park.
I understand this logic, but still unclear why this wouldn’t also apply at weekends! Surely the shenfield slots would be the same times during the weekend as during the weekday off-peak? Somehow they are making it work at the weekend so I can only assume it would be possible on weekdays too
This really feels like a step backwards!
I’m also confused why it needs to happen on weekdays, but not on weekends? If you look at a Saturday or Sunday there is no padding at Westbourne Park and the journey times are similar to normal.
A journey from Hanwell to Paddington (for example) is in...
Thanks, just read it. Still quite frustrating that the journey times will effectively be worse than when TfL rail took over the service several years back. At least if the dwell was in Paddington itself passengers would have a choice to get off and use another mode.
Even if there are on train...
Having a look on RTT for late November it seems lots of the Heathrow trains make a service stop at Westbourne Park sidings for up to 4 minutes.
Does anyone know if this will actually happen, and if so will this remain even when the full timetable is in place in May 2023? If so it represents a...
Hiya, just a quick question about shift start times. I'm due to be starting as a relief on the North London Line in the new year. I've been told the shifts are 7-7 but does anyone know what time the changeover typically happens at for these boxes? Is it around 6.30 or even earlier? Just trying...
I’ve got a slightly random question for current signallers, but was curious and thought it could get some interesting answers!
What do you keep in your box/bring with you to work each day? Obviously things like lunch/drinks, but are there other things which it’s useful to have with you at...
Based on my interview, not much. They will likely ask why you want to join NR and why you want to be a signaller. Then for me most of the other questions were asking for examples of the Non Technical Skills, which you can find listed on the Network rail website!
I’d say if you practice examples...
It isn’t this any more. Now there is a series of 5 questions about being a signaller to which you have to record an answer using your webcam. Each is about a set ‘scenario’ which you have to deal with.
If you do a search for ‘scenario’ on this thread there is lots of info about it.
In short you don’t need to prepare anything in advance but just think about the main priorities of a signaller (safety first etc) and then answer the questions with that in mind. It’s mostly common sense.
How does the change affect Rest Day Working? Will you be unable to work a rest day if it takes your rolling 7 day total to over 60 hours? Or does the 60 hour directive only apply to your base roster?
