I'm sure back in the 80's or 90's it was going to be a link to relieve pressure on J32 and it would follow the route of the railway, I can imagine the good people of Creigiau and Efail Isafe objected - I might be wrong, it was a long time ago!
Yeah the Rhiwsaeson route is still in situ -...
The J33 roundabout is where the old line from St Fagans went to Pontypridd via Creigiau, Efail Isaf, Tonteg. Luckily it's still with us (mostly) as it was once earmarked as new road to connect with Upper Boat/Power Station Hill. Probably the best way to connect Creigiau to the light rail link.
I read somwhere that the problem with Hirwaun is that level crossing in Robertstown. It's too close to the roundabout leading off the A4059 bypass. It was fine for once a day coal trains but a regular 4 trains per hour passenger service?
Noticed the other day work going on in Porth - the old track has been removed ready for new re-doubled track to go in. It's the first major work Ive seen going on since closure.
On the train yesterday I noticed that just before Trefforest Estate station the two tracks have been 'opened up' - a large gap has appeared between the two lines. Is this down to improving line speeds?
Wow...nearly a year...hope people remember there is a railway there when its finished!

Probably would be fine between Pontypridd and Cardiff for extra freight lines but further up the valleys space would be a problem in some areas. A lot of the land once used for freight lines has...
I would prefer the government concentrated on extending the reach of the rail network to places that have poor connections to Cardiff. Areas with large populations such as Talbot Green/Beddau/Church Village/Tonteg/Cowbridge/Tonyrefail. Those areas of Cardiff mentioned already are well...
