Walk On fares available from trainline or trainsplit, but not tpexpress or gwr websites?

That is brilliant news. Many thanks to Nicolas43 and those involved.

Walk On fares available from trainline or trainsplit, but not tpexpress or gwr websites?

Could one of the regular experts here compile a short 'sticky' for the fares section outlining this issue and the ways round it? This would be very useful for train users and a fix might be prioritised.

Walk On fares available from trainline or trainsplit, but not tpexpress or gwr websites?

I see. So its *not* a covid related thing. Its a website bug thing. But the problems are being conflated. As folks are expecting a journey not to be available, because it hasn't been in recent months, they don't go looking for the same journey in an alternative website, or the same website but...

Walk On fares available from trainline or trainsplit, but not tpexpress or gwr websites?

So in a nutshell are the GWR/TPE sites treating all Avanti Sunday trains as full regardless, whereas trainline (for eg.) is actually having a look and then offering a seat?

Walk On fares available from trainline or trainsplit, but not tpexpress or gwr websites?

Thank you again. As I frequently book those types of journeys I think I may need to change my website of choice. Seems a pretty fundamental problem to be known about and not fixed. Incidentally, I think a LNWR/TfW Super Off Peak Return from Manchester to London via Crewe at £35 might be a good...

Walk On fares available from trainline or trainsplit, but not tpexpress or gwr websites?

Thank you for the information. The route is definitely permitted in this case. Is there a succinct explanation then as to exactly what I can't book that that I should be able to on my preferred website? Is it just that route or a wider thing? Do point to a thread if this has been covered (I'm...

Walk On fares available from trainline or trainsplit, but not tpexpress or gwr websites?

I'm looking to travel from Manchester to South Woodham Ferrers on Sat 20 Nov and returning Sun 21 Nov. Flexible with times and happy to commit to fixed trains if required. I see that there is a Super Off Peak Return for £108.30. Great, but my usual go-to websites, tpexpress and gwr, will not...

RugeleyTV - Hebden Bridge via Warrington?

Thank you for responses so far. I'd not appreciated that map NR did not cover the direct services from Bank Quay to Hebden. With new patterns of services I think it should be re-drawn to allow people to use them. If I split my ticket at Manchester, I'm assuming I fail a fares check for...

RugeleyTV - Hebden Bridge via Warrington?

I am looking to travel tomorrow from Rugeley to Hebden Bridge (and back again) using a walk-on fare. I see a £48.10 fare 'via Manchester'. Is this valid via Warrington? In my head it should be, and checking the routeing guide I think gives TM+NR validation. However I cannot force a website to...

Bus Displays - real time departures (on bus itself)

As others have noted, Transdev has been doing this for a while. Particularly noticeable at Keighley, where at the bus station every bus seems to depart at precisely the correct time. This is much better than most other locations I am familiar with. Whilst I'm sure good management and rostering...

Rail fares which are poor value compared to bus

The Buxton line would be a good example for you. From Whaley Bridge to Buxton is £3.60 single on the bus compared with £6.10 on the train. Usually 18 minutes by both train and by the 61 bus (the bus goes over the hill, the train around it). Also the bus drops off in the middle of Buxton not on...

    Lapworth to Stratford-upon-Avon options?

I am looking to do a return journey from Lapworth to Stratford-upon-Avon tomorrow (Saturday). National Rail's app advises changing at Solihull, but gives no fares for this. I presume this is because this is the quickest route with the shortest connection time, but is disallowed in ticketing...

Northern TVMs not set up to issue 'Promise to Pay'?

It is the behaviour of TVM outside of a Penalty Fare Zone. However, Hebden Bridge is in a Penalty Fare Zone. There is the usual Penalty Fare signage around the station. There is nothing noticeable near or on the machines. I can see a case for no PTP being available because the station is...

Northern TVMs not set up to issue 'Promise to Pay'?

I will always buy a ticket at the office if it is open. I am happy with the system of PTP. I am happy to use some time to collect one if needed. I understand the viewpoint that legally they shouldn't be needed but I make no comment on that either way. What I am failing to do is convince...

Northern TVMs not set up to issue 'Promise to Pay'?

For clarity: After going through the ticket buying process the last instruction is 'insert cash or present card'. I'm sorry if I gave the impression this was a choice between the two. Obviously you can't insert cash. It will not issue a PTP. This differs from all of the other TVMs I use at other...

Northern TVMs not set up to issue 'Promise to Pay'?

So this evening I feared the same issue: Ticket office closed, a full hour before the advertised time. Definitely no way of getting a P2P from the machine. I interrogated it for ages. Interestingly, on the final screen before payment it states the option of inserting cash. Clearly this thing is...

Northern TVMs not set up to issue 'Promise to Pay'?

No it didn't. I had cash for the trip. I usually pay at the office, or on the train. The TVM does not take cash or appear to offer a P2P. It's on the latter point that I had an argument with the guard, with him insisting it did, and that in this circumstance I should have one.

Northern TVMs not set up to issue 'Promise to Pay'?

With respect, there has definitely been no big yellow penalty fare front page displayed at any time I have used the station (I am familiar with what it looks like from other local stations), and I do so almost daily at varying times. I will speak to the ticket office staff member this evening...

Northern TVMs not set up to issue 'Promise to Pay'?

At Hebden Bridge, as far as I can tell, the ticket vending machines are not set up to issue 'Promise to Pay' (P2P) unlike other local stations that I use. This is at all times, whether the ticket office is open or not. This evening the ticket office was (probably temporarily on this occasion)...

    Ticket pickup problems at Huddersfield

Update. Received a placatory email from Northern in response to my asking for clarification of policy, inclusive of the following: "While I am sorry to hear of the experience that you have had, under the Railway byelaws it is a requirement to display a valid ticket when asked by a member of the...
