Because that's how EC's pricing policy works-they would rather carry fresh air around than fill empty seats. No doubt promotional tickets (usually linked to a local newspaper) will become available nearer the time so I would wait and book then.

Since they 'refreshed' their website, the 'free' returns don't show up on any trains at any time. They are quota controlled but for the time being are not there at all.

Yes I did the very same and £19 is the lowest GC single. Why then is their website boasting of a newly-introduced £12 advance?
