I know that DB staff do regular checks on trains they take over at a border point. Recently Czech coaching stock has been cancelled from Decin onwards as there were faults that did not meet german standards so reliability on the Berlin-Prague corridor has tanked big time recently. Czech Railways...
You would need a doctors letter to be exempt. Otherwise (as is unfortunetly the case in my role on the railways in germany) you will be told to leave. It gets even more insane when shops require it as they do not have to allow a maskless person entry even with a doctors attest.
On another note...
Germany has today decided to extend Surgical/FFP2 mask wearing on public transport until at least the 7th April 2023, and other measures such as testing/vaccination (the latter has a three-month limit) can be introduced to access certain indoor areas mask-free from the 1st of October. Federal...
It's safe to say that Germany does not consider the pandemic over and that restrictions will increase as Winter approaches. Measures in discussion include more mandetory mask wearing, compulsory testing to gain access to venues regardless of vaccination status. Unfortunetly the German state has...
I certainly don't sell a 9 euro ticket if a passenger is traveling without. Our machines (Go Ahead Bayern) haven't had it added. No ticket on my train especially in the times where you can go to a machine and buy a monthly pass for 9 euros is an automatic 60 euro penalty. But every guard will...
Seen everything from normal to chaotic. I was one the RE8 from treuchtlingen to augsburg yesterday and at least five passengers were standing in the toilet. On my work route it's hit and miss whether I can make it out of the cab to check tickets.
As a conductor and passenger, I look at this with both enthusiasm and worry at the same time. On the RE96 (Go Ahead, Munich-Memmingen-Lindau) we have had trains leave people behind without this ticket offer on weekends. We can't add another set as platforms are too short after Memmingen. On the...
Austria is dropping face masks in all areas apart from medical healthcare settings from 1st of June, initially for three months. However, the city of Vienna is keeping masks on public transport in addition (how this will be enforced goodness knows).
Try catching the Railjet 256 from Graz to...
Many federal states in Germany have stated that they intend on keeping masks on public transport throughout the Summer as otherwise 'it sends the wrong signal' and 'masks are useful in settings where lots of people come together.' Central Government also wants to introduce legislation to allow...
All 2G/3G restrictions dropped in Germany, masks only required on public transport and healthcare settings. However federal states can introduce measures in 'Hotspots'
There are areas of Germamy where integration is woeful, take my area (Allgäu/Swabia) in Bavaria. My town of Buchloe has two overlapping bus only PTE's, one of which (VVM) only has km based fare charts for singles, weekly and monthly tickets can only be bought at start of week/month, these are...
Some odd things at my Junior school(2006-2010)
Year 3 teacher insisted class worked in silence kept whole class in constantly during breaks, once trashed classroom for us to clean
Year 4 teacher loved the idea of corporal punishment tapping hands lightly with rulers, once I was daydreaming...
If we need lockdowns again this winter then quite simply said the vaccines do not work. I want them to work yet no one seems to have full confidence in them? Still recommended to keep distance, still have to wear masks, still need tests to travel abroad, what has actually changed?
The Epping Ongar Railway is running almost as normal with day tickets on sale again, apart from the few family events that were planned before the 19th. Heritage bus services from Epping to Shenfield are also running again (as a registered service).
I must add my reports on a recent trip on their shires home counties operation. I was using multiple operators so picked out the Arriva operated journeys.
Arriva 300 from High Wycombe to Aylesbury, A 2004 Wrightbus bodied DAF DB250- very odd that an interurban corridor like this sustains two...
Stagecoach South accept Discovery on all of their services so if you really wanted to you could get to Salisbury on it. I once did Kingston to Dover via Dorking, Crawley, Brighton, Eastbourne, Hastings, Ashford and Canterbury. Roughly 153 miles.
Pre pandemic I enjoyed using a discovery ticket down to Portsmouth then using a cheap overnight return (£24) on Brittany Ferries to Caen and spending the day there than returning on the next overnight ferry.
The trip went something like this:
281 from Teddington to Kingston
406 from Kingston...
On the Czech run trains, I prefer the 2nd class compartments to the first class as this only offers open saloon seating and these are the same seats as used in the 2nd class open saloon but in a 2+1 config and leather covers, often it is only one or two coaches as with many EuroCity trains. Only...
