The problem is if you have 6 cars it's hard to change that, but we only have 1/2/3 so there is room for more.
Even I not just for the passengers, the trains need the extra power or else they cause delays for other trains i.e. GWML London trains
Where in Britain are the worst places for rush hour overcrowding?
I have been to Bath Spa many times and caught a standing(/no) room only train back to Warminster in the rush hour. It happens so frequently even to the extent of refusing more passengers.:-x
Also, what are the rules on load...
Try this.

It's probably a bit out of date but I seems it's the only thing available unless it's more specific area maps you want.
According to Wikipedia, more than 100mph (108 has been recorded) is not possible due to insufficient contact with the rail. I don't think raising the voltage would be a popular choice because of the safety aspect (complete rubbish really). Although the LUL subsurface lines are being raised...
I like the idea of electro-diesel trains but what worries me is that with the current plans from Hitachi, the trains would have 1/2-1/3 of the power of an HST, when running on diesel, yet weigh more!:-o and the DfT say it would cause minor delays! This is starting to sound like what happened...
I couldn't believe it when I first saw that the HS1 link was "possible" not definite, especially after all the plans they were making for through running international trains. This could be good as far as Birmingham but Manchester and Scotland are too far for it to be attractive enough over...
I agree. As I understand it Lord Mawhinney has decided that the Heathrow branch would not be viable at present. Personally, I'd scrap Old Oak Common alltogether
The Conservatives also back a new terminus at St Pancras not Euston
Not to mention the compromise for the Environment and Chilterns AONB. Actually I did read the report and I am not suggesting that the M1 is followed exactly just closely - cutting off corners etc. I think there wouldn't be a problem with gradients and have seen this discussed before.
This is...
I think the junction north of Birmingham is too far north. I would put it east of Rugby branching off to Leicester, Nottingham, Sheffield, Leeds then Newcastle and branch to Hull. For the West I would continue straight through Birmingham (tunneling would be very expensive but worthwhile for the...
Both really. I think a route near the M1/45 would be better with some sort of P&R station near the M25 and a stop near Milton Keynes. The South Midlands is the largest growth area in the UK
This sounds like the reason the Waterloo and city line was built. Access to the city from Waterloo was too hard (with it not being on the circle line etc.). Now it's the case with getting to STP
Though not a frequent traveller to Waterloo (Paddington) I usually take the Jubilee/Northern route...
I agree. Bi-modes are a waste of time. The DfT should have realised that when Alstom pulled out of the IEP for that reason.
It would be far better to electrify the major lines with OHL and use third rail for less major routes/where the line speed is 100mph- (eg. OHL to Plymouth, 3rd rail on...
