What was the last change you were genuinely excited about?

Thameslink via Finsbury Park, fantastic when it works - Which is pretty much all the time now to be fair to them.

Elizabeth Line now has most cancellations

Is this not just because it's a very frequent metro style service being compared to more traditional routes? My understanding is that it's the standard way to recover service quickly for this type of system - Short sharp shock of cancellations to get back to timetable. Makes for a good...

    Current noisy stretches of track

St Pancras Low Level(Thameslink) is awful at times.

    Upcoming future plans and changes

There's still plenty of headspans on the southern ECML. You can see it on Google maps I think, long stretches that don't seem to have any OHLE on it at all because the headspans are too thin for the camera to pick up. If you compare to around Reading for example, you can see a big metal...

Trivia - disused passenger stations that are still used for rail purposes?

King's Cross Thameslink, between St Pancras and Farringdon in the TL Core, has a lot of electrical equipment on the platforms now for the core's signalling system I think?

Thameslink Overrunning Engineering Works (18/19th June)

The line was closed between Luton and West Hampstead TL this weekend, so I'd guess it's that - Don't think it's the core.

    What do these lights mean?

https://www.railsigns.uk/sect14page2.html There's more info about them at the bottom of this page, assuming the photo in post #8 is what you're talking about.

To what extent is an operator entitled to delay your exit from a station?

Looks like there's more than enough room to install barriers where they're doing those checks? Surely cheaper long-term than the 6 people standing around - You'll see less staff standing around the gateline at King's Cross during morning rush hour than that!

To what extent is an operator entitled to delay your exit from a station?

That's crazy - Are they only checking 2 people at a time?

Prioritising freight vs passenger trains and how it works in other countries?

Should "That's what BR did" really be used as a defense for decisions made today? Suspect the service is slightly more intense now than the BR days, there's certainly a lot more passengers to be impacted.

Nuneham Viaduct shut - Didcot- Oxford

How can you know if the crisis is going to occur at 3am, or during the evening peak as a train passes?

London’s newest train line is now also its busiest - The Economist, UK

The only way I could see it happening is to use SDO on the branches. Doesn't solve the depot problem though.

London’s newest train line is now also its busiest - The Economist, UK

Looking at OOC on GMaps, there does seem to be room for the ~40m extra needed at the front of the sidings, but it would involve completely re-working the pointwork and will likely lose some of the sidings in the process.

London’s newest train line is now also its busiest - The Economist, UK

The newly built core stations have provision for 11 coaches IIRC. The sidings/depots on the other hand....

Conflicting information between platform and train - which one to trust?

Or sometimes it'll be the chime and crackling sounds/a very muffled voice that you can't understand. Bit worrying really because the driver probably thinks we can hear them.

Why Are Some Straight Lines So Slow?

Is the rail really that wobbly or is it just the camera doing that?

TRIVIA: Loudest stations for Flange Squeal

Can anything be done about St Pancras Low Level then? It really is dreadful, I always feel sorry for the staff who have to listen to it all day. Doesn't happen at Farringdon AFAIK, is STP Low level just too tight of a curve? Can't see that being fixed anytime soon if so.

Is There Any Way of Identifying this Station? (update: it's Strood)

Looks like there's a third rail? So either south of England or Merseyrail? Platforms look bi-directionally signalled as well?

Thameslink Welwyn Garden City to Sevonoaks services

There's also a persistent issue that the morning southbound services get marked as delayed around 10/15 minutes before departure, only to leave perfectly on time, or maybe only a minute or so late. Maybe a minor thing, but definitely makes me worried I should have left home only around 10...
