Rail renationalisation- do you support it?

Rather than people dismissing the failure of yet another East Coast franchise as a contract renegotiation, surely the focus should be on the state of the franchise agreement which once again allows the majority of payments to be made at the end of the contract, meaning that if the companies...

What if Marylebone station had closed in the 1980s?

This has just reminded me of one of my favourite YT series.

Is rail REALLY that bad in the North?

Quite possibly, because we have, to an extent. History shows that, the decline in it's industry and the failure to re-establish new industry beyond the retail sector. The railways and transport infrastructure play a huge part in helping economies grow. It would be nice to see some investment in...

All The Stations - project to video every British Railway Station

It's probably the first video I've not enjoyed - probably due to the 'includes paid promotion' aspect of the video. I've always avoided The Trainline, see no need in it. However, the mobile ticketing was interesting to watch.

All The Stations - project to video every British Railway Station

How else were they going to fund it? I know I wouldn't be up for using my savings to travel around the UK for three months solely on trains. People paid money if they wanted to, the beauty of kickstarter campaigns. If you don't want to contribute - don't. No need to bang on about it. I've...

    Huddersfield signalling re-control works

Station due to close 27-29 October too. Ruined mine and most likely plenty of others plans of going over to Liverpool for the football. Two weekends chosen aren't the best in all honesty.

All The Stations - project to video every British Railway Station

Unlike Darlington's version of Victor Meldrew I have thoroughly enjoyed this series. I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't an episode a day but I know the work which goes into video editing, it's just impossible. A nice way to spend 10 mins at work skiving and I certainly will be visiting...

Potential New Central Pennine Rail Line (Colne-Skipton)

I've not made any claims. Only that I would use the railways more if the beeching axe hadn't fallen on my local station. Would be cheaper for me and better for the environment. (Oh and if there hadn't been a lot of housing development on the old railways - I'd say my local line would be one that...

Any news on proposals to build an alternative route between Exeter & Plymouth?

Isn't it a case of rather than looking at current population, it should be looking at further developments and demand? E.G if Okehampton/Tavistock and it's surrounding area are due to have some housing developments then reopening lines, just like new stations could be beneficial. It's OK...

Ravensthorpe platforms: why not on the Wakefield line?

I may be wrong but in the 90's there were plans for a lot of development around Ravensthorpe, which got canned. The pace is a dump though, it needs regeneration and certainly has the capacity to be a prime location for house building etc.

Fastest Transpennine journey time using existing infrastructure

Seeing this thread got me digging into the plans to improve the times between Manchester and Leeds via Huddersfield. Anyway I found this... http://orr.gov.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0018/22941/enhancements-delivery-plan-change-control-april-september-2016.pdf Which reads... LNE001 b...

    Huddersfield Railway Station

Evening all. I've spent the majority of this evening googling the old layout of Huddersfield Railway Station - largely after a discussion at my work about where platforms 3 and 7 used to be and about platform 9 which has been muted in the local paper. I'm just wondering if anyone has an...
